What's new

Jazz at Kings - 8 PM Mountain Time

lol

Hayward has a couple of games were he misses both FT's in a FT trip and all of the sudden he has questionable FT shooting. Career 81% FT shooter. That number isn't getting worse.

Consiering he's shooting below 81% right now, it is. Though now it's just by half a percentage point.

Still, over the past 10 games he's 46/66, which is a tad under 70%. He's been terrible at the line lately, which really sucks since he gets to it quite a bit. During that stretch he's had 2 games where he's shot 14 FTs. One of them he managed to make 7, the other 11.

lol. Calm down Hayward lover. Geez, you are cute when angry though. I like it.

Again how good do you project a team with Hayward as the #1 which he is now, and a viable umber #2 option?

Who is the number 2 option? Is he a top 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 player? Is there a 3rd option who can also pass?

Kanter and Favors are both scoring pretty well this season and shoot above 50% and those shots don't include all dunks and they can catch, and hold onto, a basketball.

First off, this idea that Gobert is a walking stone dude from the Never Ending Story is horse ****. He does have, from time to time, moments in games where the ball hits him right in the hands and then launches into the stands as if propelled by rocket fuel. The egregiousness of these events exacerbates this false idea that he is Mark Eaton with Vaseline on his hands. Kanter is so far from having the hands of a kitten, he could break concrete. And, yes, Kanter and Favors can shoot jump shots. Fantastic! Look where we are with our defense...hopeless!

We're not winning many games this year with our offense; there is no debate on this! Our only hope is to get better defensively and that means Gobert at the pivot. Nothing has worked on defense when he's on the bench. You cut Booker's minutes but you play Gobert to have any shot, and you play Exum with Kanter instead of Gobert with Exum. Or we can go with your suggestion and keep playing with Favors and Kanter together as we lose our tenth game in a row tomorrow against the Spurs!

Yes, that happens when he is in little to no traffic. He does in fact have stones hands though and it results in a lot of missed opportunities around the rim, which is sad because if he could hold onto the ball and force more contact he could get to the FT line more where he is a respectable shooter.

This team stinks. I watched them live against the Magic, on ground level (nearly) and the body language from a lot of the players sucks. Trey sulks, Gordon reverted back to sourpuss pre max-contract levels of sulk. Kanter continues looking like an oaf baffled by some of the routine mistakes he makes. When something doesn't go Favors' way, he shrugs and just jogs down the court as if he's about to go up the stairs and order a hotdog. I just can't see a lot of fight or fire in any of these guys right now.

-There's no hard screens being set (saw Hood practically allow a defender through him, screwing up the ball handler). Couldn't believe what I was seeing from a team that was once helmed by Sloan. Most of our pics and screens are for show garbage.

-Kanter and Burke are just as infuriating to watch live as you'd expect. Six pump Kanter travelling, getting swatted. Trey getting into the paint and jacking up an off balance shot around 3 defenders. No imagination from Snyder in use of the roster. Watching Kanter getting yanked every 2 minutes and put back in just puzzles me.

-We can count on players like Favors, Booker, and Burks to pull disappearing acts on a routine basis. Usually a team can manage if this type of player if there's one on the court at any given time, but we can't have three or four players consistently lay eggs on a nightly basis from the starters or the bench. I'm really starting to question Favors' ability to excel when it's important. He's the quietest 15/9 center in the league.

-The passing game is laughable. I'm surprised our turnovers aren't higher considering the other teams seem predict on a consistent basis who the ball handler is going to pass it too. What we construed as a 'fun team to watch' in the pre-season has derived into a trivial scouting challenge for the teams they're facing on a game to game basis.

In short. Coaching.

I dont know. This is your scenario. What do we need with Hayward as the #1 to be a top 4 team in the west? Which is what I think we both want.

Do you see the #2 as a really good PG, or SG to play off him? Or with a dominant center? Give me hope Cy.

Another good playmaker. Hopefully Dante Exum. Also not have our starting PG and SG be complete waste on defense.

One thing I notice is that our guys are not confident shooters for the most part...and rightfully so. Most teams have several guys who can confidently make shots. The Jazz seem to be winging it, trying to make something happen, but are streaky shooters at best.

Trey Burke with another gem being guarded by someone he ought to be able to handle.

Dante is probably at least 2 years off from really being that guy we hope he is right? So where does that leave us in the meantime?

I agree the defense has to change. As much as I'm pro Burks and Burke their defense is inexcusable, and
they can't remain our starters if they cant improve considerably there. Do you see anyone in the draft in the top 4 who could change our fortune? I'd love for your scenario as Hayward as the number one, and us being successful to come true. I'm not against it. Hayward is a great guy, and exceeded my expectations. It's nothing personal with him, I just don't see any likely plausible scenario in which we can reach our goals with him as the #1.

Perhaps. These opaque statements from Snyder in the paper saying that this is all apart of the 'big picture' makes me question why, in the last 5 minutes of the game, he seems to only be taking in Trey and Gordon and talking to them during timeouts or free throws. Against the Magic, those two were getting an earful of something from Quin while the other guys on the floor kind of probably just assume they should stand around and pass the ball away if they ever got the ball. Apparently, Trey and Gordon are the only one's that are getting Quin's big picture. Gordon's trip on the last play was absolute cringeworthy for how much Quin talked to him the minute or so prior.

Interesting observation.

Can you show me something that nets us a #1 option?

Much easier (and realistic) to pair people with Hayward. We could easily get someone like Towns, Mudiay, Winslow, Okafor, or Hezonja in the top 5 who all have 20 ppg potential.

Burke gives up straight-line drives and passing lanes. He gets left behind on almost every screen. I feel like we're defending 4 on 5 and one of those 4 is Kanter.

I dont see an option. Our only shot was, and is through the draft. We all hoped for a top 3 pick to pair with him. I was hoping for Wiggins to pair with him. I thought Wiggins could eventually be the 1 and Hayward and 2, and that would be enough to be a top team in the West.

Since that scenario didn't pan out we are stuck with a really young Exum who could be really good down the line. So who out of those players mentioned about would you most like with Hayward, and Exum as our core? Since this is the reality I have to deal with it.

Kanter has looked a lot better on D recently, granted the level of competition he has been guarding hasn't been very high lately, I haven't noticed him doing as many thing wrong as I did early in the season.

Burke is still the worst defender (though a lot of that is just because the level of competition at the spot is higher than SG or PF). Burks and Kanter are tied for next worse (would probably be tied with Burke if their position was as deep as Trey's.

I really want to start Exum... and I think Burke could be a great playmaker and scorer off the bench...

I think Exum will be the 2nd option. He'll have an advantage at the PG spot with his size, length and speed. Hayward is the third option. The first option is TBD and needs to show up in this draft.
