Following potential 2015 draftees

I might take Hezonja over Johnson if it came down to it. I'm not quite sold on Johnson as a shut-down defensive player just yet, and I'm not sure his offense or athleticism are that stand-out either. Am I 100% sure Johnson is going to be better than Hood? I need to see more. I'm confident that Hezonja is going to be a mismatch at the SG spot. He's a big-time talent.

I need to see more of Winslow. Winslow seems to have a bit more upside than Johnson, but I haven't seen that much of either player.

Truthfully, I would draft an athletic big with some offensive polish. I like the potential of Chris McCullough for the Jazz if we can't get Towns or Mudiay. The Jazz need a big who can put the ball on the floor, create and score both inside and outside. Kanter kinda does those things, but he's not quick enough to be a real go-to player. Favors needs to be set up.

Meanwhile we have Hayward and Hood at the SF, and we can pick up a defensive specialist if we need.

the reasons I would put hezonja down on my draft board are 2 things 1- defense 2- ego. if I feel he could come over and be teachable and learn I might consider him. the more I read about him and how he is being handled the less I want with him.

I believe Cy/Catchall would take Hezonja over both of those guys if I'm not mistaken? Have I left out anyone?

My head says Johnson, and my heart says Hezonja. I really do like Winslow, but the little weird voice in my head says don't trust a Duke prospect.

Also, on Towns, weird that he has a 9'1 standing reach for UK pro day, but a 9'5 standing reach (the same year) at the Hoop Summit.

Can we trust people who work for the University of Kentucky to know how to read a measuring tape? That is a pretty huge difference when it comes to rim protection potential.
Fwiw.. I was there several months ago and measurements were done. 9'5 was the standing reach.. no idea how they got 9'1.. impossible thats true.

The measurement from the UK pro-day were lower than the measurements from Hoop summit. The latest one(the UK pro-day) were standing reach 9'1'' and wingspan of 7'3.25''. The earlier measurements from Nike Hoop summit were 9'5'' and 7'3.5'' respectively. I remember at the time they were released i was shocked at the difference, but I've seen Hoop summit measurements exaggerated so I assumed the UK Pro Day ones were more accurate.

I don't know if they've made some mistake with the release...

Here's Chad Ford talking about it too:

Towns also measured the part, standing 6-foot-11 in shoes with a terrific 7-foot-3 wingspan and 9-foot-1 standing reach. He also showed off an impressive 36.5-inch max vertical and put up impressive scores for a big man in the agility drills

I'm not sure how this measures.. but when Towns is below the basket he easily grabs the net with both hands, flat-footed, and rests while Cal is talking.

"The basketball hoop attaches to the backboard. The NBA requires that this backboard measure 6 feet by 3.5 feet and have a 2-inch wide rectangle centered behind the ring, measuring 24 inches by 18 inches. The hoop must be 18 inches in diameter with a 15- to 18-inch white cord net. When attached to the backboard, the upper edge of the hoop must measure exactly 10 feet above the floor."

I also thought it strange that his reach shrunk 4".

Exactly.

Donald Sterling would still own the Clippers if he had just "thought it" and not "said it". Big difference.

But if Sterling only said that he had thought, that his girlfriend shouldn't associate with human beings wearing a different skin color than his, would the result had been any different? Can you say to think something without actually saying it? I'm confused.

Also do you like how I described blacks in such a non racist way that it totally sounds racist?

The Celtics started doing that years ago, they had a shrink at the Combine, did the interview with ESPN and everythangggggg

The Mavs were the first to have a full time psychologist on their staff. But maybe Boston wanted everyone to know that they have one too now!

This Hezonja VS Winslow/Johnson debate - I wonder if it'll turn out similar to the Hayward/George debate????

George was an athletic defensive wing who turned out to be a great offensive player once he's in the league.

George was a super athletic wing who showed promise on offense as a shooter, lacked ballhandling but tried nevertheless and the way he used his body suggested he could be good at defense but he was molded into a defensive juggernaut in Indiana.
There's even interviews where he says himself he wasn't very interested in playing defense before playing in the NBA and hated it.

I don't know, I'm browsing through prior Hoop Summit measurements and compare them with NBA Draft Combine measurements in the cases where they've attended both. And after 30 matches I haven't seen a single suspicious measurement. But if you have any knowledge on inaccurate Hoop Summit measurements please share them.

@BTP I remember Michael Beasley's standing reach of 9'1'' at hoop summit from years back. At the time I was certain it simply cannot be true... At the NBA combine it turned out to be several inches shorter. Maybe I've just remembered this case and have formed an unfair opinion about the hoop summit's measurements. If you say that the ones you've seen have all been accurate, then I stand corrected. But still in this case with Towns it is weird to see a difference of 4 inches. That's huge... I wonder who is correct. I wonder if he's even going to go to the NBA combine. Last year the top 3 didn't go...

who is debating this?

I would take Winslow or Johnson over hezonja.

Where does Porzingas fit?
We're probably landing in the 6-9 range which is where guys like that - and a few others - may fall.

Also wouldn't mind having Gobert and WCS as our rotation at the 5 with Favors at the 4 and Kanter coming off the bench. Of course that means we need 3PT shooting at the other 3 positions since Favors' range is only out to 15ft or so. What does everyone think of McCullough? I've seen his name on a few boards but haven't watched him play.

It seems weird that UK would undersell any of their players measurements so I have to think the UK pro day one is the most accurate.

Surprisingly Burks seems to have taken a small step forward last night VS the Spurs. He was composed. He attacked when he needed to and he hit long range shots. May be he is in fact our answer at SG and with Hayward doing so well at SF, that's a solid lineup already. Hood coming off the bench seems to be doing a decent job as well. Like somebody else here mentioned, it wouldn't be hard to sign a defensive wing in FA.

On that basis I would probably take OKAFOR, TOWNS, PORZINGIS and even MUDIAY before I take Johnson/Winslow/Herzonja.

I like Porz talent, but physically he looks like AK. Looks like a guy who is going to be rail thin with chicken legs his entire career and is going to be soft as *** on defense when he can't block shots.

According to dx:
For Beasley recorded a 9'1 standing reach at hoop summit and 8'11 at the draft combine. That's one of the biggest disparsities that I could find but I don't think it's phenomenal since there's length differences when you're up mutliple hours(It could be 1 inch from morning -> evening and another 3/4 of an inch from extra insoles in shoes and then Hoop Summit may have rounded it up(Haven't found a single quarter inch accurate measurement)

I've been pimping Chris McCullough a bit on this board. Here's what I like about McCullough:

* NBA size and measurables for the modern PF position at 6'10" 220 lbs with good length
* Very efficient movement, both running the floor and lateral movement, and good court awareness
* Great timing and instincts on both blocks and steals; quick reactions and good help defense
* Ability to finish around and above the rim, though he needs to keep working on his body and needs to get stronger
* Some fast-twitch athleticism that lets him make nuanced physical plays with sudden speed bursts
* Good shooting touch from mid-range

I think he's a guy who could rise on boards like Vonleh did last year, although there are more heralded bigs in this year's draft.
