Following potential 2015 draftees

I think that's a bit aggressive.. but I do think he's solidifying a top10.

The more players in that range, the better selection the Jazz may have. Even if they plan on Gobert/Kanter going forward, a team selecting WCS could push a player down to Utah (if the Jazz start winning some of these close games!).

A few thoughts from me....

1. Gobert is the future. I like him more than anyone in this draft. Admittedly though, I haven't done much scouting from this draft.

2. I'm not really interested in drafting another big. If he's the undoubtedly the BPA, then fine. But I'm still not interested in developing a big man again. It takes too long.

3. I would like a dynamic wing this time. Maybe Stanley Johnson? I dunno. Is he good? He looks pretty good.

4. We should try to go after Draymond Green in the off season. I'd be willing to give him Kanter's money.

5. Trade Kanter and Burke if you can. Maybe even trade the pick too if we can get someone good.

6. Just start Gobert already. He's the truth.

7. I think the Jazz should go after some of the young players around the league who are buried on benches and not getting any run. It would put us a little ahead in the rebuild. Maybe someone like Otto Porter. We have a few assets like Kanter, Burke, and our pick, we might be able to get something done.

Agree with everything except 4. It's a fallacy to expect Green would be a great three point shooter with us. He is assisted 90% of the time and the benefactor of Curry and Thompson's double teams.
Case in point is Jarrett Jack. Dropped from 40% to 34% on three point percentage after leaving GS.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd still go after him though. He isn't just a 3 point shooter. He does everything. His defense is outstanding. I like that. I'll take that. You need that to win championshipps. If we have Gobert, Favors, Green, Hayward, and Exum. That would be a really good defensive team, and good offense too.

Will Cauley-Stein be this year's Embiid in terms of shooting up the draft board? Maybe he becomes the consensus #4 behind Okafor, Towns and Mudiay?

I know this is blasphemy, especially since my board name is "Stifle Tower," but I wouldn't be opposed to drafting WCS if he's available. Don't keep Kanter, freeing up that money to go out and get a wing in free agency. Then, split minutes betweem Gobert and WCS at the 5, with Favors as the PF and emergency 5. Either keep Booker or find a stretch-4 to develop. IF WCS blows up, then in a couple of years, maybe Gobert has HUGE value as a Harden-type contract - i.e. he's traded on his cheap rookie contract to a team that wants his RFA rights and is going to pay him whatever it takes to keep him. Or, if Rudy continues to improve and the Jazz can keep him, WCS becomes the trade chip. I could see Rudy's competitiveness and Quin's guidance really helping WCS to get/keep the fire burning. If he were to go to the wrong team (like the Knicks or Lakers), I could see WCS lose his confidence and desire.

or the jazz now have their version of the twin towers. wcs could play the 4 and guard it.

A couple thoughts on bigs....

Yes, they can take a while to develop, but not necessarily. Gobert is in his 2nd year with limited PT as a rookie. Anthony Davis is in his 3rd year and is an MVP candidate. Bigs who are for real tend to have an impact by their 2nd year.

I think the Jazz don't have a great solution at PF if they don't think Kanter is their guy,...or if they don't think they can pay Kanter right now. If Kanter keeps developing the way he has been this year, he could become comparable to an Al Horford--at least on offense. He'd have trade value.

Take a look at what Porzingis did in his last game, and tell me he wouldn't be an ideal PF to play next to Favors or Gobert.

Regarding wings, I think we have to ask ourselves how much better the wings in this draft are than the wings we already have in Burks and Hood. I think Hezonja and Winslow could be an upgrade.

Problem with Green is that he's restricted, IINM. So 1) you have to overpay to keep GS from matching; 2) you have to renounce the rights to Kanter and Booker to free up the cap space to make an offer. 3) There's a good chance you then end up with none of those players.

1. Johnson is the wing I'd consider. As a rookie, he takes the minutes behind Hayward. Johnson and Hood off the bench would be very nice. And if Gordon opts out and leaves, Johnson steps into the starting SF spot.

2. Porzingis is certainly intriguing. I think Gobert is the future starter at the 5. So down the road, it may come down to either Kanter or Favors as the 4 and backup 5 (in a 3-man rotation). We can afford to match for Kanter now (I hope), but with the new TV deal, maybe Favors gets a monster offer when the next contract comes around. I know his defense has been an issue, but Kanter is very effective inside. A trio of Gobert, Kanter and Porzingis could be very nice, with Kanter splitting his minutes between the 4 and 5.

In sum, I could see the Jazz going either direction. If they draft Porzingis, a trade of Booker would probably happen. Or, they don't exercise their option on him. But Trevor should have value. May as well trade him for a future pick or keep him for depth. At $5M, he's a very good deal. Anyone know when the deadline for exercising team options is? Does that occur sometime after the draft or is it before?

Stanley Johnson is playing badass defense right now against Michigan... Shows why he's considered top perimeter defender of the draft. He even made a block from behind in help defense situation against one of Michigan's bigs...

Good post. However, if Gobert is really the starter, then either Favors or Kanter would be moved. The Jazz aren't going to pay $10 - $12 mil/year for a back-up big. The Jazz could come out of the draft with Porzingis and look to trade Favors or Kanter for an athletic wing in the next year or two, or they could go after a wing in free agency. Look at how guys like Trevor Ariza, Demarre Carroll are performing as mid-tier FAs. I just don't know if Johnson is worth a high draft pick to the Jazz right now. Whereas, a 3-man rotation of Gobert, Porzingis and either Favors or Kanter would be flat-out awesome. Why? Because Porzingis can shoot from all over the floor and pass better than any big we have right now, and Gobert might become the best defensive center in the league. Then we have either Kanter or Favors to maul the other team's 2nd unit.

Exum + Hayward + 3/D + Porzingis + Gobert = contender

Loved the analysis on Porzingis. He has GREAT potential.
