What's new

Game Thread - 1/2/15 Atlanta at Utah - 7 pm local

I thought there was a lot of positives tonight. A depleted Jazz team played their hearts out against a veteran team that is playing their best basketball of the season. Exum played well on both ends.

The Favors/Gobert front court gives me a basketball boner. That's some of the best interior defense I've seen coming out of Utah in 15+ years.

This is key...not your boner, but the fact the Favors/Gobert combo shows signs of working. Imagine had Utah just gotten some contribution from their PG. Or had a starting SG (or backup). Jazz need to put all their efforts into finding a PG and another wing. I'm hoping Johnson is available when the Jazz pick.

PG's I liked better than Trey:
Earl Watson
Jason Hart
Milt Palacio
Keith McLeod

Jazz PG's worse than Trey:
Jamaal Tinsley
John Lucas III

I really like Dr. Q but Enes is really the only player who is held accountable for defense. Trey can be the worst player by far on the court. On defense as well as on offense but he will get his minutes no matter what.

People are saying Enes can't defend the PnR but look at Trey for a second. Most of the time he is so far away from his man that the big(Derrick, Enes or Rudy, doesn't really matter who) have to stop the ball handler and can't recover to their own man because of that. And it looks like the big screwed up!

I'm sorry but I can't take his lazy *** on defense. He can't fight through picks, doesn't put pressure on ball and he even loses his man off the ball w/o screens or anything. I said it before and say it again everything starts at the top with the PG. If he is getting beat over and over and over again your defense is screwed because you try to rotate and have to scramble after just 4-5 seconds.

So what exactly does he bring to the table again?

This.

Been saying this.

I loved that spike on Horford toward the end! It reminded me of when Ivan Drago first starts wailing on Apollo Creed after his rowdy trainers holler something in Russian.

Honestly, I'm cool with Burke getting the big minutes right now.

How deep of a playoff run were we expecting to make again this year?

Think about it. The more Burke chucks, the better our draft positioning. Next season is a completely different story. With Exum, Hayward, Favors, and Gobert starting next year, we can make a major leap forward and possibly start contending. If Burke is still starting over Exum at this time next year, then I will be concerned.

Meanwhile we set an example that if Dante wants to get more time on the court at PG, he needs to stop trying to guard his man so well, start aiming for the side of the rim instead of making it, and start being severely undersized, undersped, outclassed, and overwhelmed.
