What's new

Gobert should start

Rudy fumbled a couple in the first quarter, but made up for it in the 3rd. Loved the 'oop from Ingles. Joe had an outstanding night.

I'm tired of the offense trying to go around Rudy. It seems like they are more willing to throw a bad pass half cross the court to Ingles for a turnover. Wtf is that? Just dump it into to Rudy a few times so our offense works better. Let him shoot a couple time, let him do a couple post ups, and let him pass it a few times. Have Rudy start shooting few outside shots so he is just limited to rolling to the basket everytime. I'm sure he isn't gonna be all that bad. He can shoot free throws and he's tall, so he can get his shots off. Don't we want to develop him? What are we waiting for? It's not like our team is bursting at the seams with shooters. It doesn't have to be a ton, just some, instead of none would be nice.
.

Agreed, they should go to him a few times in the game, against second units mainly, where you dump he the ball in the post and he can work back to the basket. Just a few times, nothing more, to show him that you trust he will developp that move and become an offensive, option. Plus it would be a good way to teach him how to deal with potential double teams, pass the ball while in possession, etc.

For the rest, all the little brain farts, panicky moves or bad choices, these are things that get cured with experience when the player is clever (aka no McGee type). with a bit of seasoning the game slows down and things become easier. He is after all a very good but young player with limited highe level minutes. Mediocre and average games where he gets stripped a lot will happen, he won't go Timberwolves game style every night.

I notice it's Hayward a lot that tries not to pass to Rudy. It seems like he has a beef with him or something. There's even been times where I thought they going at each other a little bit after Rudy says something to him.

Hayward is just playing for himself, dude is just passing when he is in trouble and padding stats. Burke is even worse, dude is undersized but is never passing the ball on breaks. The only guy who is really playing unselfish is Ingles, the rest of the team is playing very selfish... Thats one of the reason, why this team sucks... Thats just because our players, are so damn young...

When did Kanter become an above-average-starter-quality big? None of our bigs right now qualify for that.
I think he meant above average........ starting quality.

In other words, they are all starting quality players

And are above average as well.

But not starters that are above average of other starters. (Just above average of all players, starters and bench players combined)

Here is a Quin question relevant to this thread...is his philosophy the same as Sloan and Corbin, in that you cannot lose your starting job to injury? So if Gobert just lights it up, and is rising among the elite centers of the league as a starter, does he immediately get relegated to the bench in favor of Kanter due to the injury anmesty clause or whatever?

When do you plan to watch a game again? I'll try to get you an answer by then. Happy to help and contribute around here.

Do you think the Jazz know what they have Rudy Gobert? It sounds like a dumb question, but I have to wonder. The Jazz have always like to play defensively soft players with an offensive game over better defenders. I could see them matching on Kanter and just leaving Rudy on the bench for a few years. Which is a mistake imo.

Part of me still doesn't trust the Jazz even though a new regime is here now.

Rudy is the elite rim protector we all hoped Favors would be. As crazy as it sounds, I believe Rudy is even better than the best case scenario most of us imagined with Favors. And Favors is no slouch himself. Once Utah has some decent guards, this team is going to run amok all over the league. Better lock up your daughters type ish. So yeah, Utah knows.

Yep. I thought rudy was going to be awesome, but never thought this good. He is amazing. If he and favors can play together, we have a very solid 3-5 in the starting lineup.

I remember people mocking me in the comments when I first started the "gobert's rise to be the greatest Jazz center of all time" thread last year. Not many doubters now.

Why do people not understand this?

The way he mimics Karl Malone with his free throw routine is encouraging. When he starts speaking in the third person we will know that he has truly arrived.

Ha ha . I was going to add that I guess there will be some that undervalue him and think he should be moved so kanter can play until he becomes Karl Malone. The advanced metrics say that Favors is a top 20-25 big. If he ever brings the hunger daily he is easily a top 15 big.

Favs is 4th in the league in PER amongst PFs... two guys in front of him are role players who's PER would dip if they were to get extended minutes. He is ahead of Aldridge, Griffin, Dirk, etc. He has been ballin. He's also a two way player.

From now on if anyone on Jazzfanz calls Hayward or Favors a role player or average I will consider you a basketball tard... I'd encourage others to follow suit.

Favors is most definitely better than the average big in the league.
So is rudy and enes imo.

I figure there are 14-15 players on a roster. Therefore the average would be the 7th best player on any given team.

I think rudy, derrick, and enes are all better than the 7th best player on most teams

I have been down on Favors and questioned his lack of heart right here on this board on several occasions. But as good as he is now, it's scary to think how much better he could become. As reserved as his personality is, it's amazing how good he is.

Consistency is his final step to me, but to me he is basically Al Horford. With Favs, Hayward, Gobert, and hopefully Exum we've got a great core. Burks, Hood, and whoever we draft this year fit in there somewhere. Kanter??? I'm not sure where that guy fits in this equation, but he's an asset. I think next year we will look to be more competitive and will add some decent bench depth. We are on the right track here... just another year or two of patience and I think we are in the playoffs again.

Guys, like a few people have said, Favors is really really good at basketball. Also, he is still very young. He is freaking 23 years old. He still probably has 3-4 years before he hits his peak. Think about that. We have two players who would get all star consideration right now if we were a winning team in Hayward and Favors, and they are not even close to their respective peaks.

If we want to trade Favors, we sure as hell better be getting something awesome in return. If we win the lottery and draft another big, then we can have an awesome three big rotation for the next 4-7 years with Rudy, Favors and whoever we draft. Maybe we draft a stretch big like Porzingis or Towns though, and that would be a dream. I am salivating just imagining having Rudy and Favors playing with Karl Towns. We would easily be one of the best defensive frontcourts in the league, and would have some decent offense with Towns hopefully shooting a little further out, opening up space for Rudy or Favors. Hell, even Favors is improving on his jump shot, and has talked about being able to shoot threes in the future.

Average big, not average player. I don't consider Kanter to be above average. Not sure Rudy is there yet either.
