Chuck Norris has Rudy Gobert pajamas.
Good postWhy, isn't the max the Jazz can offer more than what other teams can offer? I get the Jazz may want to extend him and get the extra fifth year, but letting the market set his value doesn't make them pay any more if he's going to get the Max regardless. This isn't Hayward who would have extended for 12 per then ended up getting max.
Edit: For the record, I have only been able to see a few games, so I haven't been able to see the impact that he has had. I'm just saying that hypothetically if he is going to get the max either way there is no harm for the Jazz to wait, financially, but they may want to do it to show good faith in him.
But like sgjazzfan said, the jazz could just let him enter free agency and butt have anything to lose right? (He would be restricted I think)Gobert can be extended the end of next season (July 1st 2016). The Jazz will be able to offer him the "franchise" 5 year extension
Yeah that's the closest Chuck Norris will ever get to him. Rudy Gobert doesn't do pushups, he pushes Earth down. Thriller change your avatar if you don't wanna look like a LOSER!

How many players can we give the five year max to? What if exum blows up too?
Thank God he's a 1st round pick.
Can you imagine if he was picked in the 2nd round, becoming a UFA after his contract ended? I'd die.

DQing himself
Uh...he'd still be an RFA.

Because there's nothing to be gained by letting him go to FA, but it could cause some hard feelings like it did with Paul Millsap. There's nothing to be gained because there is zero doubt as to what kind of offer he will get. Every team in this league would sell their first born to have a shot at stealing Rudy. Greg Monroe is another example of how things can go wrong. That would be a worst case scenario. Rudy isn't a player you take chances with.

Keep in mind we're talking about a Hayward level max, not a true max. There is a difference.
Well, another team "setting the terms" actually brings him in cheaper (4 years and only 4.5% increases). But who knows, perhaps he'll give the team a bit of a discount. Probably not as below market as Favors, but maybe a few million/per. Jazz will negotiate up to the max, with the 5th year being the carrot. Gobert isn't quite there yet, but if he continues to improve he'll be one of the "franchise" players we've been hoping to land.Jazz should extend him at the 5 year max right before the RFA deadline just like the Warriors did with Klay Thompson. The system is in place for exactly these types of situations. The Jazz have him for the next 2 and a half years at very reasonable rates, but they won't let him get to free agency and have another team set the terms. They'll keep him at his current contract as long as they can to see if he continues to play at this level, but they will extend him before he ever comes close to RFA.
