What's new

Celtics at Jazz, 1/26/2015 7:15PM MT Game Thread

but seems like both Exum and Burke were really awful

This
And it's the common theme alot of games.
Point guard is our worst position right now (hopefully future dante changes this) and has been for a long time.
Lucas, tinsley, watson, pgab, diante, mo, trey, rookie exum. Lots of scrubs.

Take away d-will and Stockton and it looks horrible since way back.
Crotty, larue, jaque, milt, hart, brevin, mccleod,..... arroyo and eisley were ok.

Hard to be a great team without a good point guard

Lol, Dante was actually better at creating offense even in this game. He had some nice passes but pretty much every single open shot he created was missed. Smart will have real trouble creating offense in the league...but he's awesome at D.

Exum is awesome at D. I see him get burned here and there, but in general he makes the opposing guard have to work extremely hard to see the court or to get a good shot off. There has been so many times this season where the opposing PG is just wrecking us, then Exum comes in and completely changes the tone of the game defensively. The opposing point can no longer be the dynamic playmaker he was used to being and it forces an ad hoc change in the opponents strategy. In fact, I think that's the real reason he was put into the starting line-up and the whole "we need Burke for scoring on the 2nd unit" is political BS.

I'm starting to fear that Exum was a wasted pick. I wonder how the draft would've turned out for him if he had worked out with more than just the Bucks/Sixers/Magic or if he had gone to college for a year.

Feel free to talk me out of this train of thought.

If Exum was an American following the same timeline as Wiggins/Parker, he would possibly be the #1 pick, and probably goes ahead of Parker.

He has all the tools necessary to become an elite player and the only thing holding him back is his mental state and experience level, which are both sure to change dramatically better in the near future.

Hopefully Exum develops and becomes that answer at PG that the Jazz desperately need right now.

Then get a shooter that can D up in the draft and the two most glaring holes for the Jazz are filled.

This, the problem isn't the shots per se, it's the 0 assists.. His job as a PG is based on the different routes run and screens set by his teammates to initiate the creation of a scoring opportunity. even if it isn't a very good one, odds of success are better for Favors/Kanter post up than for a Trey shot...

Some of this still comes down to his lack of physical attributes. Being short and slow makes it hard to get easy passes too. Exum has a much easier time passing the ball just because he is so much taller. Nor does Trey show any particular nice passing skills, maybe average at best for an NBA pg. Yeah, he does make some nice ones, but not many, and makes too many poor ones or just misses opps all together. Yup, he does have hero ball syndrome.

Quin has said that exum's defense was a reason why he was moved to the starting lineup.

I just wanted to say thank you to the guy who in the 4th Qtr gave me his two seats in the first row (on the off chance they actually read this) my boy (10) was so excited he couldn't stop smiling and being in awww of how the players looked up close. We were sitting at row 15 and that was the closest he'd ever been (I've sat in that row several times but no closer then that myself).

About the game I just wanted to say it was Horribad in the first half, soft, no energy any negative adjective would work. For anybody to single out any one Jazz player as playing bad either didn't watch the game or just has an agenda.

Watching Ingles and Exum kind of reminded me of watching the Watson/Foye, Tinsley/Foye backcourts. The broadcast would should the starters points and they would have like 4 combined.

So you I just heard on the radio that trey momma was on twitter saying some more controversial **** but they didn't say what she said.
Anyone know what she tweeted last night?

So far it appears to be the same excuses a few posters here were making for Exum, if people could make shots there would be more assist, turning the ball over and not miss FT's. I'm a assuming it's a combination for people complaining about Trey and being a mother.

I finally stopped following her. She said something about her little boy not being afraid of anything and continuing to shoot. Something about turnovers as well.

Yeah, it's his mom, you should expect bias opinions to come from her. Kind of retarded to reply to anything she says.

dude, the jazz will not achieve anything until a true head coach comes here

I still feel mad about this embarrassing loss.
Let's face it, a lineup of Exum - Ingles - G - Dfav - Gobert would have pounded the Celtics.
I thought starting Enes over Gobert for now would be the marginally right decision but this is not helping Kanter's trade value at all. Other GMs are not that dumb.
