Where do you put Okur in that mix? Is Okur even a leader player? Whatever that is?
I would certainly not put Okur in "leader" or "star" player category. He was a big part of Jazz team and was also responsible for a big part of what the Jazz were able to do and not able to do. He is not a classic center and his presence was a big reason for near perfect Jazz offense troughout the years, he and Carlos were arguably the best offensive frontcourt tandem in the NBA. They were defensively one of the worst tandem, by the way.
Pre-injury Memo was the 3rd string, weapon after Boozer and Dwill and he was one of the clutchest players in the league, who has been the most reliable Jazz player in crunch time. He was much more than a prototype role player in the NBA but certainly not a leader or cornerstone player. Post-injury Memo is yet to be seen at full health. I'm encouraged by the fact that Elton Brand, who also had a similar injury, can still affect many games, help his team really well. The bad thing is it took a couple of years for him to be able to do so. I sincerely do not expect him to be a big part of the system but he will be a game, momentum changer, a solid player.
Actually, after watching this new look Jazz team up to this point of the season, I would really think about benching one of Al and Paul and putting Memo into the lineup, if he had been healthy. The Jazz have become way more predictable on offense and their court spreading, floor spacing, passing from post, passing traffic, game pace, inside-out balance, efficiency, and unfortunately -for a month- defense, has been terrible. Defenses are able to pressure Deron much more and collapse on defense.
