What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

This is so ****ing weird. The only thing that starts to make sense is that Dallas knows something important no one else does but… do the Mavericks know that Anthony Davis has been more unhealthy than healthy for the past four years? Or that he’s older?

What is happening

If Dallas really wants to move Luka, then fine. But why the rush? Why the Lakers for that package?
Right. Shams said Mavs approached the Lakers offering Luka... Sure with such mega offer they can't ask a few more teams? Like to the bucks for Giannis? Or even to the Nuggets for Jokic? Who's gonna be the go-to-scorer on that Mavs team now? Both AD and Irving are solid second options but not the alpha that you can build your offense around.

I still can't believe this is real, absolutely bonkers.

Like any conspiracy theory feels plausible because this is so ****ing insane. Maybe Luka said he wanted to retire to become a full-time eSporte player

This is THE most shocking trade I can remember.

Probably significantly worsens our 2027 pick from LA. Oh well.
I’m not so sure this hurts the value of the pick more than it ensures it’s not top 4. LA has no assets and LBJ isn’t going to be a star caliber player forever. If it hurts the value of the trade it won’t be by much.
We couldn't put together a better package than what LA gave up for Doncic??!? This feels even more sketchy than when the Lakers got Gasol.
I’m guessing they wanted a star back in return. We couldn’t offer that. Also we got two 25 seconds and JHS who we can use as a as a trade filler as a prospect with still a decent amount of untapped potential. I don’t think there was any offer short of all our picks and any young talent with any potential leaving us bare. No thanks. Jazz made out like bandits here.

Dallas really traded a 25 year old that many could argue is the best player in the league. For a 31 year old always injured 2nd best player on his team.
Dallas now has a 3 year window to win, if that.

To improve the asset-base. But I agree it’s weird he’s helping the Lakers extend their window of relevance.
They ain’t extending their window by much assuming LBJ finally slows down and at any rate LBJ by then will at least have clown down a little more and after LBJ and Luka they won’t have much.

He's a guy about to turn 32 who's been healthy exactly one season this decade and who peaked 7 years ago. I'm not sure he's in some whole other category compared to even Lauri, let alone some other players around the league that teams would've surely given up for Luka.

Trade is so lopsided it reeks of NBA favoritism. We had way more to offer for Luka. Along with majority of teams. This smells like them trying to fix ratings.
Yes. All our pick and anyone with potential leaving our cupboard bare oh and probably this years pick. I’m not sure it’s worth all the risk.

Just don't buy that win-now BS. Dalls now has two great no-2 options but zero alpha. The reason they got so good and made it to the final last year in the first place was because of Luka. That is too big of shoes to fill even for AD. No way they get anywhere close to contention now
