Where has he gotten "ample opportunities" exactly? He came into the league injuried which was why he dropped so low in the draft. Then he had to play behind two top 30 players in Durant and Ibaka. He was traded to Boston who has a plethora of front court players. He came into camp nicked up then...
I wouldn't imagine a ton. Evans really didn't play much. My point was he threw some alleys to him throughout the season. Don't have an exact number but I'd guess Trey threw more alley oops to Evans than any other player that year.
I think you hit the nail on the head talking about system fit. Burke isn't a guy you play off ball and expect huge production. He's a ball dominant guard. Which has it's advantages and disadvantages. He needs floor spacing and/or high flying finisher to be at his maximum effectiveness similar to...
Not sure if Trey just choose to defend that way or if it was the gameplan against Steve Blake because I recall either Neto or Burke guarding Jackson that way. Burke didn't defend that way at all in preseason so I'm not sure where it came from but it was totally unnecessary against Blake.
He defended the pnr ok. He was shading heavy to one side forcing Blake into help. It wasn't like Neto was doing great defensely before the leg injury and certainly not after.
How was Trey awful? He moved the ball well, fought through screens, and didn't take any I'll advised shots. I swear some people just love being critical for the sake of being critical.
Horrific? He couldn't do much playing with Burks. Not seeing the criticism of Alec chucking. He took all of 2 shots in 15 mins. One should have been called a foul. People here are so funny. I understand this thread was unnecessary, but that doesn't mean you have to be ridiculous with the comments.
Again I agree. Neto has some thing about his game I really like. I just haven't seen him do it against starter level player. I question if that up in your face aggressive style can be sustained playing starters logging starter mins.
I agree. Neto IMO just based on raw skilkset will be a better steals guy. However staying in front of the ball handler is the "meat and potatoes" of defense. I'm not sold he can do that against starter caliber players yet. This question will be better answered as the season goes along.
Burke has been a much more improved defender this preseason. I think the problem I have on this board is that people here hold on to ideals that may no longer be the case anymore. Anytime a player can do a decent job defending Westbrook that person has defensive skills. Burke clearly rededicated...
In today's game Neto will have to make shots in order to be as effective of a passer as his talent level suggest. Defenses will simply back off and take away passing lanes. If he can't hit the pull up mid range jumper enough to force defenses to respect it he'll just be another high TO and/or...
Again in a sport where there's a certain stagma about what it means to be a bench player of course Trey would be "disappointed" to be benched. However that doesn't mean it will be a problem.
This didn't answer my question. I get everything you're saying. Which is why I asked why you directed your post at me. I pointed out how well Trey accepted his "6th man" role last season.
For me Trey fits the starting line up better than Neto. I think Burke faciliting skills are being vastly...
What part of my post gave you the impression that I don't understand roles? His point was that Burke expects to start. I was just saying giving his performance he should want and expect to start.
I
After the preseason Burke just had wouldn't you expect to start? He clearly out played Neto. Not to say that will be enough to start, but I'm sure for him it was.
Anyways what makes people think Burke won't willingly play off the bench when he did so last season?
Really don't know why he's being limited to a bench role?
Though I agree with the heart of this post. It seems almost like people on the board wants him to fail. Nobody can see the future however he's playing really good so far and has looked much more improved as a player.
This is what I don't understand! When he is brinking much like last year fine you're shooting too much. However if you're putting up the gold standard for efficiency and the opposing teams are giving you shots you keep shooting.
Can we expect Trey to put up that gold standard all season...
