Hayward tried to go to the rack all night ,got mauled no calls on the road.played good early but just average after that. Kanter played good on O,got stuffed a couple times, didnt let it bother him played well down stretch, still has work to do on D. Burks played good all night, did miss a couple freethrows late but was fortunate Gobert kept ball alive for a utah putback. Favors did some good things but needs to work on his free throws. Novak was so pitiful on D,they had to take him out as portland picked on him every trip down.Jones was playing prison ball behind the refs back as usual.Booker gave his usual hard effort. Burke played really well late, lifting the Jazz to victory. Exum cant finish at the rim.Anybody else?

Exum seemed like he was trying to avoid non-existing block when he tried to finish at the rim. I think he's overthinking it and he seems scared from the physicality of the players in the paint.
Trey is clutch! If he manages to translate his last 2 minutes of the game form to the rest of the games, he'd be one of the top PGs in the league. Unfortunately I don't think it's sustainable. I wonder if it has to do with concentration?!
Gordon is a monster - his improved bulk is helping him to finish stronger than ever before at the rim and through contact.
Kanter was bad in D...
Favors had a "quiet" game with 19 and 9.
Novak won't be getting a lot of minutes. Simply don't see how it's going to happen with our emphasis on defense. He simply cannot guard ANY 4s in the league.
Burks gives up on the system and goes iso way too much. But to be fair, we couldn't establish a stretch of time with great offensive possessions in general, like we did in the beginning of the last game, when for about 6-7 minutes we played Spurs-level passing and flowing game, with literally no bad shots taken. I didn't see that this time.
Transition defense was great, I am not sure but I think we allowed less than 10 points from transition yet again, which is great. Our half-court defense needs more work.

I was just thinking about how many Jazz games were lost on very poor coaching. Quinn had some out of the box ideas tonight, and they worked. Sometimes you can learn and win at the same time.
This team is young and will inevitably struggle. For now the future looks to be in great hands.

Thank you

In this case I think Hayward's one was better. He climbed up to dunk it over the seven footer Freeland.

I love that offensive set that lead to hayward's dunk, it's really nice. I like Burks' too cause Favors made a great pass to him.

I'm more concerned about the direction than the speed. Jazz are a young team, learning a new offense and defense. Quin has had very little time with these guys. But he certainly has instilled confidence, camaraderie and effort in to the mindset of the youngsters. Probably will still end up with only 30-35 wins, but we ARE in good hands and the franchise is moving in the right direction.

dat Hayward dunk doe

The Burks' one was beautiful on one more level - it is an almost perfect execution of a horns set where both bigs come out to the elbows ready to set a screen for the guard(Exum), but Exum chooses another option of the offense, passes it to Favors at the elbow, at which time Booker leaves the other elbow a few feet back so his defender won't have the time to interfere, Exum rushes towards Burks, sets a screen for him at which point Burks is free and 2-3 steps ahead of his man, Favors makes the pass while Booker's defender doesn't have the time to recover and he gets dunked on. Absolutely beautiful!

This. Which is interesting, because if there's one thing I've taken from his play prior to these last two games, is that he hasn't mind taking it inside. Just go hard kid, it's ok if you get blocked once in a while!

Agree with this observation. May be he's too afraid that he'll get hit in the air and landed on his legs & injuring himself.

Dat Hayward yell after his dunk. Never seen or heard him like that before. Hopefully he keeps up that mentality throughout the year

Favors's pass to Burks before his dunk was a beauty.
Kanter with 5 TO's is bad. Be careful fella!
I think Jazzfanz will have planty of opportunities to appreciate the huge difference made by a good coach (QS) and a better PG-game (Burke showing good signs).

Damn that was NASTY from Hayward. Crazy to see his body hit Freeland's and just keep on rising. Love the attitude.
