What's new

11 year old boy was told to clean the room, instead he shot his grandmother and then killed himself.

Very sad.

There is no reason that an 11 year old should have access to a gun.

Agree I have an 11 year old and they are not rational.

i had access to guns since i was 6 years old.
pulled a gun on a trespasser when i was 9 a 20 guage shotgun
but my parents thought me responsibility and morals!

so how can we teach kids about responsibility and morals!
how can we teach boys to handle their testosterone and masculinity. and girls how to handle their feelings

They also trusted you around household cleaning products but you obviously huffed those too many times.

in 2017, 1300 children died of accidental gun shot wounds. Ron is right. Kids should not have unsupervised access to fire arms.

I was brought up to think gun control was more about breathing and trigger pressure than legislation, but I see nothing wrong with training gun owners on, and demanding that they follow, safe gun practices. Something along the lines of our driver's license requirements. Don't ask me how that would be enforced, but the education and emphasis alone would be a step in the right direction. As a cub scout, we went to the local NRA range to learn gun safety, lol. Everyone had guns in their homes, mainly hunting rifles of one sort or another, and I guess it made sense to educate young boys to respect guns in an organized way. I believe people have a right to own and use guns, but I would not object to good sense compromises of that right in order to protect innocent lives.

I think one thing different about now vs when i grew up is that while everyone had guns when i grew up they were mostly rifles and shotguns mostly used for hunting and not something that their owners loved more than their kids.

Now people LOVE their guns and want to have these huge collections of exoctic guns and show them off and display them. Different gun culture today vs back in the day.

You can still love your guns without it becoming a radical quasi religion.
