14th Tank Platoon

Celtics with a nice win over Atlanta.
Orlando beats Philly.
Cavs look like they'll hold on over the Thunder.

Golden State getting trounced, while Dallas and Memphis are winning.
Would love to see Phoenix pull this game out and keep pressure on the Ws.

It makes me happy when GS gets destroyed.

Critical road trip for the tank. 6 road games in 9 nights, 2 back to backs.

Feb 28 at Cleveland,
Mar 2 at Indy,
March 3 at Bucks
March 5 at Washington
March 7 at NYK
March 8 at Philly

The back end of the back to backs are against the bucks and 76 ers. Jazz are going to win both. I expect a bunch of injuries for the bucks and Sixers just before the jazz game. Gastric distress, tooth aches, head colds, bleeding gums, sore eyes, nose bleeds etc. The 76 ers are so shameless they might just waive their entire team and sign a bunch of guys that were cut from the dleauge.

So for those still clinging to that "what happened after our 1-14 start" refrain, let me list a few points (i.e Utah was never that bad and never in the competition to get a top-3 pick):

1. Schedule: (BRUTAL) 6 home, 9 away. And the home games were against OKC, Houston, Denver, New Orleans (the lone win), San Antonio, Golden State
2. Injuries: Trey (12 games), Marvin (5), Evans (12)
3. Rotations: Tinsley backing up Lucas III before Garrett's signing. Then the Burks at PG experiment.

Might I suggest better evaluation of the team may have been at the 2-month mark? At the end of December the Jazz were 10-24, but still had played more away games (19) vs. home games (15). Adjust the win total up by 1-2 to account for the H/A difference and Utah would project to 27-29 wins for the season, which is exactly the pace Utah is currently on. And even getting there has required Favors and others to miss a few games. Take away injuries and the Jazz would be on pace for 33-36 wins, similar to Portland last season with the same type of roster (i.e. no depth at many positions). You could also adjust further by looking at the W/L record when all the core-5 play. As we know, that's much closer to .500.

Sure, I'm like the rest: disappointed that the Jazz, barring a lucky day at the draft lottery, will not end up with Parker or Wiggins. But I'm also looking at the positives:
1. Jazz are nearly a .500 team when the core-5 plays (and this in a year when Hayward has struggled and Burke has hit a rookie wall).
2. Jazz have a rising star in Burks. Definite 6th man candidate if he doesn't start.
3. Favors is improving and has shown signs of developing a mid-range game.
4. Kanter is an offensive force off the bench, but needs to improve defensively.
5. Williams has found a home at the stretch-4, with career-high FG%'s.
6. Found a decent 2nd/3rd PG in Garrett. He can battle with Neto this summer (and the Jazz can release Lucas).

The draft class is deep. Can get a starter and a backup with the 2 firsts. No, not a "guaranteed" franchise player, but there's many all-stars who have been drafted with mid-lottery picks. Lindsey got two good players in Burke and Gobert. Let's hope he can do the same again (and I'd say the odds are higher with this draft group).

Yipee!

I realized the FO really could have the best of both worlds if they really wanted too. If the reason we aren't tanking is because we want to put bums in seats, why not just go out and get Jimmer and tank simultaneously with Jimmer in the line up.

So. The Jazz are 3 wins away from having both 3rd fewest wins, and 11th fewest wins. There are a lot of teams packed into the 3-11 range with just 6 wins separating the two with the Jazz right in the middle of that group.

1-2 wins (or losses however you look at it) will go a long way. Jazz need to do something to be sure they are at the lower end of that group. Having 3 wins be the difference in getting Parker/Wiggins/Embiid vs Gordon/Vonleh, with 3 more wins pushing us to Stauskas/Young/McDermott.

Jimmer is kinda double edged sword.

Well, the Knicks have now put the Nuggets ahead of us in the tank race. Watch Denver drop another couple spots with their own pick. I think they're joining the tank race. They're going to be players in this lottery.

Case in point: The Nuggets are down by 26 at home in the 2nd quarter to the Nets.
