14th Tank Platoon

All is not lost, Curry only played 22 minutes last night, has " soreness" in his right leg but would not elaborate. Bogut banged up his right knee the other night. And Iggy dislocated a finger.

There is still hope. But I agree the window is closing. They need a major injury soon.

Great work mellow. I didn't know about any of that.

Hope restored.

Or they could just keep losing and get the a better lottery seeding and avoid the chance to lose to Indy/Miami.
Cleveland made acquisitions to push for the playoffs. New York is trying to convince Carmelo to stay (I think). Detroit is another story. They have an interim coach and Dumars is likely out at the end of the season. But that may be good. No one is going to be pushing for the tank. If Detroit could make the playoffs, it boosts the resume of their interim coach.

I'm encouraged by losing streak Atlanta has. Brings the #8 playoff spot back into play for Cleveland, Detroit and New York. Making the playoffs IS desirable in the EC since the team that misses only drops 1 spot in the draft order. Sure, they have an infinitesimal chance of moving into the top-3 if they miss the playoffs, but making the playoffs brings in revenue and tells a nice story to fans and FA's.

This is actually wrong, as the draftslots 11 through 14 are taken by Western teams, and 15 through 20 by Eastern teams. So if you barely make it as an Eastern team you're #15. If you barely miss it then you're #10.

I think making the playoffs will drop you about 3-4 spots as Mem, Min and possibly Den and NO will likely have a better record than the 9th EC team. Other than that I agree. NY especially as they don't have their pick will be motivated.

Edit: Just read your post BTP, agree with what you said..

Oops, my bad. You are right. Detroit is currently sitting in the 11th spot and would drop to #15 if they made the playoffs. I think the talent pool is fairly similar in the late-lottery so not a huge deal to be in the 9-15 range (kind of like when Utah drafted Hayward among some 6-8 players that were rated very close). Cleveland and NY have huge motivation to make the playoffs. Detroit perhaps not as much.

I think with all the draft debts it's really tough to predict where the front offices actually approach the coaches and ask them to tank.
New Orleans and Detroit would be the examples here. I think you can rule out Detroit because their coach is in a contract year but in New Orleans it may happen.

Update!

And my part of the update...
Time to send this team of with a 21-Gun Salute (as in 21 Games Until NoMoreRJ,AB,BR,TC)

Here is the remaining schedule. It's soft. And I hope I'm WAY OFF, but I see 7-10 wins...UNLESS Favors has his hip flare up again. Jazz need to find a way to lose unexpectedly (good loss, ugly loss...doesn't matter). Tonight's game is critical. Utah MUST lose to the Knicks. Hoping Stoudemire continues his resurgence after being inserted into the starting line-up.

Losing 4-0 would probably be worse for NYC's image to Melo than just missing the playoffs.

I think Melo's going to bolt to either LA or Chicago. He can see he left NY in a horrible mess by forcing the trade. They have no assets available to improve the team goign forward. NY needs to tear it down, suffer through the last season of Stoudemire's terrible contract and then rebuild from scratch. Of course, Dolan has ZERO bb sense and will probably keep trying to patch together a team.

Some good tank games tonight.

Jazz @ Knicks
Cavs @ Bobcats
Kings @ Raptors
Nets @ Celtics
Bucks @ Pelicans
Lakers @ Nuggets

I highlighted the teams I want to win. If all those teams win it will leave the tank race like so:

Celtics - tied for 4th
Jazz - tied for 4th
Lakers - 1/2 game back
Knicks - 1 1/2 games back
Kings - 2 games back
Cavs - 3 1/2 games back
Pelicans - 4 games back

Celtics and Jazz would only be 1 1/2 game sout of 3rd (Magic). Looks liek the Cavs and Pelicans are fallign behind. There is incentive for the Knicks to do so and I think the Kings will as well. Biggest comeptition is the Lakers and Celtics.

What I think happens is that the Jazz, Lakers and Celtics all lose. They get some seperation from the Kings, Cavs, Pelicans and Knicks.

Chicago is my bet.

Idk what Chicago's cap situation is, but I think Melo could take them to the next level, assuming Rose can make a good comeback.

The problem with this Bulls team has always been their lack of a legit 2nd option. They had Rose and a great group of role players. Rose/Melo would be a serious 1-2 punch.

Rose is done being an All-Star.

Melo is going to stay in NYC.

well that settles that

All I know is that Melo loves NYC. I know his wife is adamant about staying in NYC. When has a top player left a big market?

Howard is the only one I know of, but he is a giant weenie.
