I'm totally with you on the Dante thing. He has a lot of growing (developmentally, not as much physically) to do. I'm not worried about him right now. Obviously people want him to get there now so that we know what we have in him and so that the team can decide what to do with the PG position. But that's not realistic.

It's pretty likely we'll only start to have an idea of what he is after next season.

Sedn him to Summer League and I think he is playing for the Australian national team too.

Good observation and Exum doe snot nearly get the heat that Kanter does. Not even comparable really.

This is because the Jazz are winning and Exum is directly contributing to a winning culture while Kanter contributed to a losing culture.

Exum plays D and plays for the team.
Kanter plays O and plays for himself.

yeah I think you're right - no doubt the way Kanter went about things (with his ill-advised comments) didn't help the way people view him either.

This is just a general observation so please don't anyone take offence to these comments - they are not directed at any individual.

I just find it interesting that posters will acknowledge Kanter's offensive numbers, but don't regard him as a player because he's not good on defense and therefore are glad he is gone because his defensive problems hurt the team and we are a better team for Kanter being gone.

Then there posters who either hate Dante Exum or want to trade Dante Exum because, even though he is an above average defender, bordering on elite as a rookie, he is not producing on the offensive end and is therefore a liability to the Utah Jazz.

I guess it just reflects that we as fans are never happy.

Just my own opinion here, but Kanter is only 22, he will improve his defense and I think the guy will be an all star in the future. I suspect (or worry) that the Jazz may end up with Egg on their face in regard to this trade (even though it was Kanter who wanted out). To be fair the Jazz never did treat him right in regard to his playing time and how they played him.

Dante is only 19 (Denver game showed that yes he can drive to the rim and create assists) and his offensive game will improve with time and I suspect he too will be an all star one day.

No one lets players develop anymore - unless your name is Lebron or MJ I don't think any player is a star in their rookie year - yet in Dante's case people want to be rid of him 5 months into what may be a 15 year career with the Utah Jazz.

Exum gets a pass because he is a rookie. If he is anything remotely like this in his 3rd year, I can assure you that this entire board will be calling for his head. Exum works very hard on defense. Exum on offense is very hard to measure. He's not trying and failing, he simply is not trying. He defers pretty much any time he gets the ball. It's really hard to say how good he will actually be once he gets his head in the game on offense. I think his "trial" must come to and end next year. This type of play on offense can't continue next year. He needs to try and fail. He needs to assert himself and find out what he can really do. I would expect this of Exum and of Synder next year. If it's not happening, he must be pulled from the starting lineup. I'm pretty confident that won't be necessary though.

Kanter, on the other hand, has had the better part of three years to show some improvement on defense. And it's not just that he's not good on defense. He's HORRIBLE on defense. It's essentially 4 on 5 out there when he's in the game. If there was even an inkling that he cared or was showing moderate progression on defense, we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion. He's good enough on offense that if his defense was even passable, we would be talking about an all-star player and max contract ... NO QUESTION.

There simply is no comparison of the criticism of Kanter vs. Exum at this point.

The Jazz defensive rating from 1/22 (when Dante became a permanent starter) is 96.3 compared to 106.8 up to that point. Good work Doublea.

I don't know if it started it but Exum starting and Millsap playing more were big contributions to the improved D as well.

The Jazz SHOULD offer the max...if Kanter hates Utah as much as he has expressed, he surely won't sign our offer anyways. But he and is scumbag agent can use that as leverage to get other teams to offer the max. I'd love to see one of our competitors cripple themselves financially by overpaying for a one-dimensional/mentally-limited/immature player. Cool.

The best indication about that is that the team started playing OK defense even with Kanter on the floor once Dante became part of the starting lineup. At the same time Trey was playing more with Gobert and the defensive numbers of lineups with Gobert were similar to the defensive numbers of the Kanter lineups. In general what happened as far as defensive numbers go was Dante+Kanter=Trey+Gobert. Dante was able to keep up with his man and put Kanter in fewer bad situations where he usually makes mistakes/or is slow to rotate/, while Gobert had to compensate more about Trey's defensive deficiencies...

Maxing Kanter will not cripple anybody. It will be an overpay the first year and then the cap will make an historic jump. The cap will be about 12 million more than where the LT is now, and it will jump even higher the year after that.
