1st Round NBA Playoffs (Game #1 GT): Jazz at Suprs, Sunday April 29th 2012, 11:00 AM MDT (WTF)

well the feeling i got from that game was "haha, no one thought the jazz would be any good let alone make the playoffs. well, that's cute... ok, moving on. who do the spurs play in the 2nd round?"

would like to see that change.

Man, a pretty sad game. I thought we played well for most of 3 quarters, then a huge spurt just put us too deep. Looks we are going to have to play near perfect to beat them.

Positive side, we got to the FT line 30 times on the road. At home, we should be able to live at the FT line.

I saw a better team execute its **** against a more limited squad. Plain and simple.

I'm glad the jazz had the fortitude to stay close for a while... run their own **** against the odds.

I hope Ty has some adjustments (ahem... jefferson shot one free throw) because Popovich's system just beat his. They had a game plan, executed it, and it won. At least don't let them do it the exact same way in game 2...

I only see two options.

Option 1: Let Parker or Ginobili beat you
Option 2: Let their 3 point shooters beat you.

I think the genius in any basketball system forces opponents to think in these kinds of oppositional terms. Their offense is so well-drilled that you may be right. I think there is still a third option:

force them to adjust to us in some way that throws them out of rhythm

I know that sounds like a long shot. It is. But their groove will beat most teams. You gotta get into their heads and bodies in some way. Land a surprising left hook that puts them on their heels and then just attack with something that feels alien. There is no way to quantify it exactly, but our attack has to be some kind of mindF*** for them... they are too unflappable otherwise.

Just watched the game. Man, those Spurs are freaking good. Props for Jazz for keeping it interesting ( mainly because Spurs missed so many open jumpers in first half ) for so long but we have no answer for Parker, their passing and ball movement. This is going to be short series, I thought it is going to be Spurs defense which will be a problem but it looks like we can't stop their offense. 106 points in playoffs is way to many and I am afraid it is not the highest they will score on us. They just so much deeper and better at this point.
And I agree with everybody that inserting Howard in starting lineup is terrible mistake on Corbins part. Keep him on the bench, dude is completely out of rhythm.

Two words:

Blake Ahearn.

Trying to keep things possitive here. They kept up with the best team in the league for a good portion of the game. Burks and Hayward combine for 17 ft attempts. Millsap's hustle was refreshing. A few adjustments for Wed. like Favors in the starting line up to guard Duncan and Harris getting some more help on the p n r and we might just have something.

Gotta love the irony of this board preaching the value of getting our guys playoff experience, and then scoffing at Howard's playoff experience like it means nothing.

Funny stuff.

I just think we have more sympathy for our young guys. Howard is just a short term commitment so we could care less about him (for now).

Excellent point here. Hypocrisy exposed.

But of course, simpletons like Hantlers won't understand it.

We all get it... Being swept is good (because it will give us experience). Playing Howard is bad (since his experience is somehow worthless. Playing Carroll over Howard would have led the Jazz to a 20 point blowout over the Spurs). Ty Corbin is amazing.... Devin Harris sucks, he can't defend parker, Goran or Jameer would lock him down because it's all his fault for Parker chewing us up....

and yadda yadda yadda * regurgitate everything that 1320 tells you*

With just another year and no draft picks, this team for sure will compete for a championship....

I guess we should all point out that having healthy knees and the ability to pass is also needed along with playoff experience.
