Margo's draft board:
1. Kyrie Irving 6’2” PG - Duke – still think he’s the best option at #1. I’d still keep D. Harris and possibly move him at the end of the year, or possibly the trade deadline. Future Comparison: CP3
2. Derrick Williams 6’8” SF/PF – Arizona – Love this guy. Blake Griffin lite. I’d trim him down and have him play exclusively at the 3 which would allow us to have a huge starting five with Hayward 6’8 – 6’9” starting at the 2. BTW I think our biggest needs are a future PG and an athletic SF, that’s why you see Irving and Williams as my first two on the board. Future Comparison: Blake Griffin/Paul Pierce/Michael J. Fox
3. Enes Kanter 6’10/11” PF/C – Turkey – This is where my draft board basically turns into a cluster****. I wouldn’t be upset seeing my #4 here as well, and Kanter doesn’t necessarily fill a need for the Jazz, but I do think he’s going to be really good. I basically see him as a “future” rich man’s Big Al. He can basically do everything Big Al does (minus the blocks), but he’s got deeper range, can pass, and can actually put the ball on the floor. He would definitely create a log jam in the frontcourt, but I’d have confidence that KOC would then be able to move Millsap or Al for something. Plus, from what I’ve seen the guy’s face is the size of a snow shovel, and face/head size is something a lot of scouts look at. And what’s not to like about a guy who’s first name rhymes with a male reproductive organ? Future Comparison: Pau/Kevin Love/Boozer/Those huge heads on Easter Island
4. Brandon Knight 6’4” PG - Kentucky – I’m really back and forth on Kanter and Knight. I think Knight’s going to be really good in the NBA. Probably be a less quick Westbrook with a better shot. Future Comparison: Russell Westbrook
5. Bismack Biyombo 6’9” PF/C – Congo – I’m very hesitant to put him this high. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from him in highlights and I do think he can be perhaps even be better than Big Ben (not Roethlisberger). Having said that, it seems like there’s always these bigs that get a bunch of hype just before the draft just because their big, and long (see Thabeet, Hasheem). My draft strategy would almost always be to draft basketball players instead of athletes. I guess if KOC really wants to swing for the fences he’d bring in the Smack who could either turn out to be the defensive minded big we’ve needed for years, or he could be getting 6 pts, 6 reb, and 2 blocks per game down in Orem for a few years. Future Comparison: Best Case – Ben Wallace/Serge Ibaka/The guy from Air up There starring Kevin Bacon, Worst Case: Saer Sene
6. Kemba Walker 4’11” PG - UCONN – I don’t see him being a good fit for the Jazz, but at this point he may be the BPA. Future Comparison: Jason Terry/Ben Gordon/Willow
7. Jonas Valancioasdlfaj;sdfj 6’11” C – Lithuania – This guy looks like he sucks, but the so called draft experts have him.
top 5 in all their mocks so I feel compelled to put him here. Kosta Koufos 2.0. Future Comparison: Billy Crystal’s friend in My Giant
8. Donatas Motiejalsdkfj;asd 7’0” C – Lithuania – I’d much rather have this guy than Jonas. 7’ lefty that can stroke it from deep. He’s an athletic Memo. He’d kill it better than Memo did with his pick and pops. Doesn’t look like he really plays a ton of D, but it’s tough to get a big that can shoot deep and play D which are two of the Jazz’s biggest weaknesses. We would at least be addressing one of those issues with Donatas. Future Comparison: Andrea Bargnani
9. Kawhi Leonard 6’8” SF – SDSU – Jazz play like a bunch of ******* (another word for kittens) most the time. Kawhi would add toughness that we need. If he were a better outside shooter I’d probably have him at #5. Future Comparison: Gerald Wallace/Shawn Marion
10. Jimmer 6’2” PG/SG/SF/PF/C – He’s the Jimmer. Future Comparison: Jesus
11. Burks – Athletic SG that can score. This would slide my boy Gordo to SF, which I would need to be talked into because I really like seeing him at SG. Having said that it would be nice to be able to get points from both our 2-3. Something we haven’t been able to do since Horny/BRuss. Future Comparison: Kevin Martin/Ronnie Brewer
12. Chris Singleton 6’9” SF – Florida St. – Probably the best perimeter defender in the draft. Reminds me a lot of Shane Battier/Tony Allen type players. I remember watching him in the tourney and thought he was the best player on the court during his games. Future Comparison: Ron Artest minus the crazy.
