What's new

2011 draft.....

If you are projected to go top 5 in the draft you have to go pro right? Too much to risk by staying in college imo.

I would generally agree with you but I would say that it even extends down to players projected in the lottery or players like Hayward last year who have a good NCAA run and everyone is talking about. Kids are probably advised by 'experts' who evaluate the relative strenght of this draft versus next years based on positions and such.

But the uncertainity of the lockout adds another element. Why get drafted if you're not going to get paid? A rookie wouldn't be so stupid to play in Europe before he even gets to sign his gauranteed deal. Many of them probably don't have the $$$ to hang out and wait for a year--it costs money to live and train. I'd like to know what the agents are are advising the kids about the lock-out.

Their agents would probably pay them and they can still get other endorsements as well. Also what are the chances the lockout will be for the full year?

I may be right

Shirley Barnes told The Daily Tar Heel that her son has goals that he wants to fulfill.
The North Carolina freshman forward said after losing 76-69 to Kentucky on Sunday in the Elite Eight that he felt just like he did three years ago, when a last-second shot gave Iowa’s Marshalltown the 51-50 win against Barnes-led Ames in the state playoffs when he was a sophomore.
“That hurt for three months,” his mom, Shirley Barnes, said on Tuesday. “And that was the last time he lost. He has goals and I think he wants to fulfill those goals.”
When asked if he had played his final game in a North Carolina uniform, Barnes gave no indication which way he was leaning, only that he was living in the moment that visibly consumed him.
“I’m not thinking about the NBA,” he said.

Shirley Barnes said when the time is right, her son will make his decision.
“Harrison needs to heal from this loss,” she said. “We haven’t really talked about it, honestly. It’s not pressing to us. It’s what it is.”

I told you not to get to excited about Barnes not declaring for the draft. Looks like the ground work is being laid for him to come out this year.

Hell yeah I would take him over Kemba Walker. Are you kidding me? Shooting translates. The basket is always 10' tall and the ball always weighs the same. Not to mention the kid didnt have to play defense in college, he won by scoring nearly as much as the other teams. 51 points in 40 total minutes is impressive.

Let the rude awakening of the NBA hit him in the face, so he can learn. When these coachs and the media get on him he will start to care about defense.

He could be a superstar or he could be a solid back up point gaurd with huge big shot abilitys. What do you expect out of your 8 -14th pick in a weak draft?

Cedric Ceballos scored 50 in a game. Multiple times maybe even. So what?

I hope you are right.

The fact that he is not saying he is definitely going back to UNC or he's leaning towards going back is evidence that he is strongly considering NBA.

I know there is a lot of attention on Barnes right now, but I actually think Terrence Jones has more potential as a pro. Better athlete, more explosive, better first step, better handle...

Did you see Barnes go into Kobe mode when he realized his team was going to lose. He scored 8 straight in crunch time and looked like a much better player. The talent is there. He just needs a few more light bulbs to come on.
