What's new

2011 draft.....

Chad Ford saying Barnes is staying. It's eurobig time me thinks. Kanter, Jonas, or Biyombo. The good thing about drafting the latter two is they can improve their skills overseas while the lockout is going on.

Actually I think that was Ford posting somebody's twitter on Barnes. Nothing official yet. If we dont get top 3 probably not getting him anyway. We better all learn how to pronounce some Lithuanian names. :)

I am firmly in the biyombo band wagon. The guy can be something special. The draft fredette and biyombo can erase all fredettes defensive laps. I know no wing players that is for next year when we get barnes with the golden st pick

I learned last year not to whine no matter who we draft. Wasn't a fan of the Gordon pick and the Jazz were absolutely right about it. Things are looking interesting for the final day of the season. If the Lakers beat the Spurs tonight in LA then the Bulls and Spurs would be tied for the best record in the NBA with each winning 1 game against each other. So that means that tomorrow the Bulls would bring out their full force against New Jersey in Chicago in order to try to win HCA throughout the playoffs. We have a possible 2 way tie for the 5th spot if not 3 way tie for the 4th spot. Things are looking better for the Jazz. We just need a little luck on the final day.

Not only that, but it looks like the Spurs would rather rest their starters than worry about giving HC to Chicago. Lakers won, but it really looked like it kicked their *** pulling out the win over the Spurs D league team. Lots of things need to go right tomorrow, but it almost just feels like the pieces are falling into place for Utah to get lucky.

<crosses fingers>

Lakers desperately need to draft a new center. One that doesn't break his knee every 5 games.

This season is turning into epic fail. The only way I'll be able to salvage watching King James or Boozer celebrating the trophy will be getting the players we need out of this draft. Otherwise, this season will end up being the most nauseating season to date.

Sorry to add to the nausea but as the Jazz' chances of moving up are looking better rumors are more kids are going back to school, so it kinda breaks even - except the salaries will be more.

If Barnes really does stay in school everyone needs to start fasting the Jazz get a top 2 pick. Seriously, don't eat anything until the lottery.

P.S. Can someone tell me the difference between Biyombo and Favors as prospects/projected players? Sample size and nationality are not answers. I see two young, physically gifted players that have good heads on their shoulders and "upside". Favors has looked pretty good, but a year ago he had a lot of question marks.

If Biyombo is as young as advertised (and that's looking likely) he should be a lock for a top-10 pick in this draft.

They both are freaks when you see the athleticism they possess. Honestly, who are we going to draft in the 4-6 range with some of these kids go back to school. If we draft Kemba with our first pick, I might be a little sick.

I'm not suggesting that we draft Kemba at #6, but things could be worse. If he were 6' 4" he'd be the next Dwayne Wade, and he has proven himself to have plenty of grit and mental toughness. Given the drained nature of this draft class, Kemba might be BPA at number 5-7.

I agree with NUMBERICA re:Biyombo... he just might end up deserving a top-10 selection.

right now... I'm more concerned about the value of the 12th pick. I'm not seeing much there that I'm too excited about. And, by God, if we draft Jimmer............

Or he Kemba might be the next Aaron Brooks. That is why a lot of people like the size and pg abilities of Knight more. Jonas V. is also a very good defender he averages K. Love numbers for rebounds per 40. Hopefully all these intl players will come over and workout.

Sure you can say if he was 6'4 he would be the next Wade, but the fact of the matter is that he's 5'10. Not a worthwhile comparison. If we draft Kemba #5-7 it's a waste of a pick.

I think the thing with Bismack is that people probably view him as a defensive only player, where as Favors people view him as an overall prospect.

Favors is/was a naturally gifted finisher. He has a natural ability to catch in traffic and adjust to finish with a dunk or a layup. This is a rare ability for big men but more common among guards. Couple that with his overall size and athletic ability to make a great player.

Biyombo has only shown the ability to be a power finisher. On the other hand he appears to have impeccable timing for rebounds and shot blocking. Also something that cannot be taught. I don't know about his ability to handle the ball or shoot jumpers.

This kind of thinking is weak sauce. It doesn't matter that because the overall talent in the draft is moving prospects up. If Kemba is going to be the best player for the next 5 years you have to draft him. If so one else is going to be better. Then you draft him. If the 5th pick this year isn't that great we can't do anything about but cry to our momma's.

If the Jazz can't grab Irving, Williams or Barnes (if he declares), Biyombo seems to be as good a pick as any. If Biyombo, Valanciunas and Brandon Knight are on the board when the Jazz pick (with Irving Barnes, Williams already selected), the decision might come down to who's easier to move (Big Al/Millsap or Harris). A frontline of Favors and Biyombo looks pretty damn sexy though.
