Really?

Can someone tell me if this is really true? Greg Miller just said on KFAN, with lots of hemming, hawing & qualifications, that they will take Jimmer at 12 if he's there, mainly due to merchandise sales, unless KOC flatout thinks he can't play.

Done deal, no more discussion needed.

Did the above really happen or was this person writting a comment to the article up in the night?
 
Knight has always been a better shooter and scorer than Kyrie. Kyrie has always been a better decision-maker and distributor. I know the stats from their freshman year (11 games for Kyrie) doesn't support that entirely, but it's been the overall body of work. Knight is low risk, he'll be very good, but I think Kyrie is definitely a solid step above.
 
Kyrie Irving looked like he could get anywhere he wanted on the floor. When he had the ball in his hands, I always felt comfortable he would make the right decision. Knight seem like he tried to out race his opponent to the basket. He didn't seem to be a "penetrate and dish" type point guard, but that could have been Kentucky's system. Early in the year, T. Jones was the main focus on offense. I saw Kentucky play twice in Hawaii, and I hardly noticed Knight. If we do take Knight, I hope it will be to have Harris teach him for a few years. I noticed that bigger PG's gave Knight problem by pushing him out beyond where he wanted to be. This is going to be a risky draft, I think KOC may go with the "least riskiest player available".
 
There's some truth there for sure. Jones wasn't the focus of the offense early in the year as much as he was simply a selfish offensive player. Calipari rectified that situation in a hurry and evened out the offense.

Knight does have trouble running the team in the half-court. He started to get better as the year went on, but I would call it a valid worry (and I love, love Knight).
 
Since the rumors are that Detroit could possibly take next to nothing for taking on Rip I had this idea.

If Detroit is willing to trade the #8 pick for next to nothing for someone taking on Rip then how about this. Detroit trades their #8 pick and Rip to the Jazz for #12 pick + Memo + and possibly one of CJ/Raja/future second rounder.

I think there is a pretty big enough difference between the 8 and 12 pick to make this worth while. With the #8 pick its Possible we could draft Bismack, Kemba, Lenard, Jonas, Jan, Maybe take Singlton if the Jazz really like him and are worried he maybe gone, or whoever. Just depends on what we end up getting for the #3 pick. Best case scenario I think would be drafting Williams and Bismack.
I think we could use Rip for a couple years. He would make us deeper at the wings thats for sure. We would only be paying 2 million more next season if they took memo, and even less if they took on Raja.
Detroit might do it if they think moving down 4 spots in the draft and saving 12 to 14 million is worth it.

Just a thought...

How many years does Rip have left?
 
2 years for Rip.

But I'd rather have Ben Gordon than Rip. He's overpaid too ( about 3 yrs/36mill left), but he can play both gaurd spots and can hit a 3pt shot. Rip just crowds out playing time from Gordon H.

You don't think dumping one and maybe two of our bad contract players is worth moving up in the draft and having a good player that we could actually use for two years? This year money wise its a wash, and the next year we are only paying out 30something million in salaries. We wont be hurting that mad 2013 since half the team will still be on their rookie contracts.

I don't think Hayward is going to going to be playing 48 minutes at the 2. Plus we could not resign CJ and Hayward could take the minutes CJ played at the 3, and then split the 2 spot time with Rip.

I'd like to be able to get a nice FA or 2 in 2013 to fill in whatever part of our young guys doesn't cut it. Get me?

Thats not what Greg said. More like if Jimmer is ranked 13-15 on KOC's draft board, the Jazz MIGHT move him up if there is not a big diffeernce in players. He did mention that fan interest might be considered because Jimmer is such a big deal.

I don't think Rondo would be as good as he is without Allen, Garnett and Pierce around him. I'd pass on that deal.

Holy god no. I don't know that I'd want Rondo (and his contract) for Okur straight up.

If I had to take a player, Knight.

Ideally I'd gauge interest in Kanter/Knight as best I can and hopefully trade the pick to a team who wants Kanter and then select Knight while getting additional asset(s).

When have the Jazz ever just said screw it, we aren't paying any big salaries, and we are just going to stick to the youth movement? There have been no comments to suggest that they are just rebuilding. KOC and Greg miller have had quotes recently stressing getting back into the playoffs.

We are already paying so much in salaries that they can't afford to just go youth and hope for the best. Plus getting Rip fills a need, and if we didn't trade Okur (who KOC said today might not come back) for Rip we will have to go sign or resign another wing anyway if we don't draft one.

I don't think that this trade is the greatest trade ever, but to say the Jazz are just rebuilding and would never do something like this I think is incorrect.
