2011 Dunk Contest

Some interesting stuff. It ruins the vibe when it takes each dunker 5 times to do a dunk though.

And like Sir Charles said Blake Griffen's car dunk was weak!

I still really hate the 2:00 minutes and endless tries, but it was really good this year. Blake Griffin is a freak of nature.

Much better than I expected it would be, that's for sure, but it did wane at the end there. I was really disappointed that McGee didn't have 2 more dunks in his bag to finish off the contest with though. Those 2 were still solid, but I really liked the first round stuff and wanted him to win. He should have game planned a bit and split the first round dunks and carried one of those over if he knew his arsenal was limited.

I think McGee was planning on doing the free throw dunk at the end but once Ibaka did it he had to ditch it.

It was ok, the TNT guys were making a big deal of it, probably because last years sucked and Barkley was just bitching about how bad it was the whole time. Griffin is such a hype machine, I thought McGee should have won and had the best dunks. The car jump was a gimmick. Jump over the top of the car not the hood (three feet) then get back to me.

Put Boozer in the dunk contest, that would fix it.

DeRozen's dunk was nasty. Great stuff.

The lob to himself, grabbing it with one hand and doing a curl, behind the back dunk. that was sick.

The thing I liked about Griffen is he didn't have to try his dunks 50,000 times to get it right.

I thought it was better than in the last few years, but still not on the level of some of the greats of the past. I agree that, good dunks or not, Griffin is a true freak of nature. Watching him miss that 360 because he hit his ARMPIT on the rim, and he was still going up. Wow that was incredible.

This. I just watched the car dunk. It was so freakin' weak. One, he jumped over the hood of the car, not the car itself which to me implies its highest point. At least that's what you're sort of selling. Two, the car was basically parked five feet below the free throw line so he only had to jump from about ten feet out. And lastly, if you're going to make this big production with Kenny Smith and the choir, it better kick ***. Instead, it was weak sauce that failed to live up to said hype. Hopefully his career won't go down that same path.

If he would have jumped over it long ways, that would have been incredible.

And probably impossible. Aren't most cars around 15 feet in length?

So is the FT line and Ibaka did that in the 1st round, albeit not high enough to clear the height of the car.

Griffin won because his skit was the best, he had the crowd behind him, and he was the biggest star of the group. Not because his dunk was the most impressive. Hell some of his in game dunks were better than the car dunk.
