What's new

2013 Chicago Combine May 15-19

You do realize that Schroe is still very raw and will not be ready to contribute at a high level for at least two years.

Dirk is getting old and only has two or three good years left. I really doubt that the Mavs want to take on a project player.

If they do decide they can take on a project it will be with a big that can at least play some defense.

I'm really beginning to doubt that the Mavs draft Schroe.

I think they will simply draft BPA. That may or may not be Schroder. But unlike most other teams in the lottery, Dallas doesn't have a franchise PG. Even if a team like Washington or Portland viewed Schroder as BPA, I'm not convinced they would take him. Dallas would. But as you pointed out, bigs often do (and already are) rising. So, I like our chances of landing Schroder.

Yep

Ok ok...

I think we need to talk about this. Back in the 90s and early 2000s, having a large deron Williams like pg was great. That was the way to go.

But are you seeing the nba today? Now that you cannot touch perimeter players, guys like Parker, Paul, Lawson, curry, etc have become unguardable. In today's nba, it is far better to be super quick and fast than to be big. There might be an exception or two, like a Westbrook or Rose. But I'm not seeing anyone with that type of freak athleticism.

I'd rather the jazz get a speedy quick guard who can be devastating in the p&r, rack up those cheap annoying fouls against the opposing team because they were hand checking him, and run the fast break, than get some "big" guard who is awesome because we still are stuck in the 90s mentality of the nba being super physical.

I think there are some advantages to having a big PG in today's NBA, but yeah, I would definitely take the lightning quick PG.

Next stop: Dennis Schroder...

ALL ABOOOOOOOAAAARD!!!

Another thig to consider, jazz fans complain nearly every game about the defense seen from our PGs. And we somehow believe someone who only played 2-3 zone for the orange to somehow be good at defense? Has there ever been a good defender come out of the orange? All I can say is be careful be careful be careful.

A big guard's lack of quickness and ability to stay in front of his man could have been cleverly hidden in Jim boeheim's 2-3 zone.

interesting if bazz slips like they are saying he would be a great fit in Dallas. with Marion at the 3 and bazz at the 2. then collison is not that big of a liability any more.

Dallas under contract

nowitzki
Marion
carter
Cunningham
crowder
Bernard James

RFA

collison
beaubois

carter was a great 6th man able to play the 2 or 3. I could see them bringing kaman back if they can't get Howard. pg is not awful. 38 mil in salary.

options take Marion's contract off their hand in exchange for getting this years pick or swapping 21 for 12. with Marion off the books the can offer 2 max contracts.

no idea who Jared Cunningham is

lol

This just further solidifies my wanting McCollum slightly ahead of Schroder.

Given CJ alligator arms and Schroder massive wingspan I would say the difference in max vertical isn't a big deal. For me I would be happy with either guy, both have ??? and neither are a sure thing.

On the record, I do think the Mavs are looking at a number of options right now.

They could bring Collison back, and draft Olynyk/Adams - but they're both projects as well, it's not like they're gonna set the NBA on fire straight away.

Now off the Record!!

Now MCW might end up being good. I have to see more of him. But from what I have seen I would be very careful taking a big guard who cannot shoot who lived in the orange's 2-3 zone. Be careful of any player from that system. I definitely want to see black Steve Nash from Germany and some of these other prospects

And with all of that vertical and size, he couldn't finish in the NCAA. I don't feel great about him, his athleticism changes very little of that for me.

I have absolutely no interest in MCW. I would look at him in round 2 but I wouldn't even like him at #21.

It sounds like kobango is a great person and could be a leader, but so far he hasn't been great at the combine. He shout like 5-25 from 3's. I think it would be great if we drafted tim hardaway jr. He would give is a better 3 point threat and athlete. Ricky Ledo was crushing it too, it will be interesting how far he raises.

Ledo is an interesting prospect. Really high potential.
