2013 Chicago Combine May 15-19

I hate it when people attempt to justify why someone will be good because they can find vid on a different person with similar physical attributes that's done well... rather than dozens of vids of players that haven't. I like measurements and all... but there's just so much more to basketball.

Also, showing the one player when he is actual playing well when there are dozens of other times that he struggles and frustrates the team that he is playing for. Robinson has played well this post season but he has also had some games that he is down right dreadful!

i just hate when people say ill pass on that player because of his size, when theres effective players in the nba at that size already, u kno me tho i put the guys with similar body types next to each other, kemba is way better than larkin no doubt, imo, but i watched him in HS and hes from my state, so im biased

So the comps for Larkin are hopefully Robinson, Thomas and Kemba? Again, that doesn't get me excited for the #21 pick in the draft. I know this is a weak draft but that thought is completely discouraging.

True.. I'd rather take a guy with a very similar skillset that's a few inches taller.. since they don't glide around the court hovering above the ground and all..

And also have every guy in the NBA shoot over him.
I think length is least important at the 1. Motor, physicality, foot speed, smart rotations, explosiveness are far more important defensively, as I see it (I have little/no data to support this). Larkin is better than pretty much every other point guard in this draft by those measures. Is length the only knock against the guy, or is there some other reason people don't like him? I haven't seen him play that much, admittedly, but have the detractors?

Qman mentioned turnovers and Miami's talent (a team ranked 4th in the ACC in the preseason by ACC coaches...), which is a start, I guess. Again, does anyone who's actually seen him play have reasons not to like him other than length?

Holy ****, dumbjello!!!!! Your hopes for the #21 pick in this draft is BIGGER than Thomas, Robinson, and Kemba??????

You are the glass half fullest guy EVAR!

I'm liking Larkin more and more, but I still have him behind the perimeter-defending-rain-making prospects like Franklin and Bullock.

once upon a time a player standing 6' 0", 167lbs with a 6' 3.25"wingspan was drafted #1 overall, is all im saying.. and larkin may have more intangibles than he, hes not as talented. but allen iverson didnt have a 44inch vert either.

I've watched Larkin a lot. He has more good than bad.. but to answer your question..

He has always struck me as more of a score first PG (not that that's necessarily bad) .. but looked good in PnR. Some will assuredly disagree, but I also saw a guy that needed to tighten his dribble.

Defensively he was a liability. Quick, but not explosive.. small AND weak. Needs more strength both to defend and finish.

Again, Iverson is the exception, not the rule.

Iverson dominated in college and the translated to the NBA. Larkin didn't dominate in college and could be a good 3rd PG for a team.

I know this is not a popular opinion but I would also take Tony Mitchell for UNT ahead of Larkin too.

And this is even if the Jazz don't draft a PG at 14.

I would not take larkin over Mitchell either. that kid is going to be a problem, Gerald Wallace type but more PF'y

he still set the precedent that a player under 6'5" can be taken #1 overall though, kyrie now holds the torch of short #1picks

Everyone always thinks that big/strong PGs are better to have on the defensive end. This was true when teams would exploit a mismatch against a small PG and take him into the post. This rarely happens anymore. We all know that almost everyone runs their offense through PnRs now. This is where a small/quick PG can sometimes be to your advantage as they can use their size (lack thereof) and quickness to evade the pick and stay with there guy better than a large PG who will almost always get stuck on the pick. I'm not saying that I'd rather have a Larkinesque type guy as my starting PG, but at least for our backup I would approve of him.

Cool, thanks.

For the record, I would gladly give up #21 for either Thomas or Robinson.. for the same pay scale as the 21.

Similar pay structure being the key phrase.

Also, I would like Thomas on the Jazz if the Jazz are not able to draft Schroe or CJ.

pkm i just saw ur pop shot about young dennis gliding do i have to get the video for you??

he not only has lateral quickness but he has supreme balance within his lateral quickness, ala MKG and Rondo
