What's new

2013 Chicago Combine May 15-19

Everyone always thinks that big/strong PGs are better to have on the defensive end. This was true when teams would exploit a mismatch against a small PG and take him into the post. This rarely happens anymore. We all know that almost everyone runs their offense through PnRs now. This is where a small/quick PG can sometimes be to your advantage as they can use their size (lack thereof) and quickness to evade the pick and stay with there guy better than a large PG who will almost always get stuck on the pick. I'm not saying that I'd rather have a Larkinesque type guy as my starting PG, but at least for our backup I would approve of him.
I somewhat agree.. but its also become somewhat of a fad to say this. Weak players are still getting pushed aside.. strong defenders are still getting called fewer fouls because they don't have to lean in as much..

And Larkin, though a superb athlete, hasn't shown he has an explosive first step.. sans a couple highlight reels. Even in college he got moved off defending the scorer on the perimeter for a lack of being able to defend as well as his teammate Durand.

do not forget, it was JJ barrera who tore the heat to shreds

pkm i just saw ur pop shot about young dennis gliding do i have to get the video for you??

he not only has lateral quickness but he has supreme balance within his lateral quickness, ala MKG and Rondo

Huh? I like Dennis and his lateral quickness.. not sure what you're referring to.

never anywhere have i said larkin can defend lol, i like him as a change of pace guard, reminds me a bit of a smaller Jason Terry, maybe with better playmaking skills

the 1 pg that hasent been mentioned enough, and may infact fall to the jazz, is MCW, you guys think him Burks and Gordon works PG,SG,SF?

oh hahaha u said something about gliding, i thought you were making fun of when i said dennis glides on defense, he does, im not being fantastical

I don't really like MCW.. never have. Havjng said that, I can't very well articulate why that is... so I may have unjustly come to that too early conclusion.

No. I have less interest in MCW then I do in Larkin. If Burks was a dead eye from the outside I would like it more but I still wouldn't touch MCW until 21 in that situation.

he might have a really bad turnover issue, can really pass the ball though, if MCW was $ at the line it would be different for me, but theres no doubt about this one thing that keeps me interested with him for the jazz.

he flashes under 2 minutes, too much for it to be a coincidence.. i like that, and i do believe his jumpshot mechanics are sound and his %'s should improve for a few years

I had this horrible dream last night that the Jazz drafted Shabazz Muhamad and Shane Larkin. We had no defense on the perimeter again, and Hayward was trying to guard three positions. Corbin played Shabazz like 46 minutes a game and 90% of our offense was isos for him. He would get quadruple teamed and still put up a ridiculous floater that had no chance of going in. Hayward would be wide open, waving his arms and everything, while Kanter and Favors were both standing underneath the rim, yet Shabazz wouldn't pass it. During the half time reports Sidney Lowe would say "we're still in the game, but we just need to feed Bazz more." Larkin could hop over Isaah Thomas and Damian Lillard, but would get swatted like a fly when ever he tried to drive to the basket. Not just the ball, but his whole body.

Meanwhile, Schroeder was indeed Rondo 2.0, and the Bucks would close out the season 2nd in the EC.

Horrible dream.

Screw Corbin for giving me this anxiety.

i just hate when people say ill pass on that player because of his size, when theres effective players in the nba at that size already, u kno me tho i put the guys with similar body types next to each other, kemba is way better than larkin no doubt, imo, but i watched him in HS and hes from my state, so im biased

all im saying is theres precedent these type of players can be effective
For every decent player at such and such physical #'s there are ten times more that are similar that never make it or never make it past the scrub tittle.

he's redundant to Burks. Tall decent but not a good enough dribbler to play pg full time in the nba, and he might be a worse shooter then Burks, and is definitely a weaker player.

did anyone think Cody zeller would register a higher vertical than Derrick favors(37.5 vs 35.5)... Or Mason Plumlee. ****s cray

Larkin is a stud. Winner. I like the kid a lot. I see a mixture of Iverson and Steph Curry. Obviously not as good as either one. But if he can be had at 21 I'd jump on it.

I also feel this draft is being seriously underrated. The top 5 is very week and I wouldn't want to be drafting there unless it was at #1 for Noel. But this draft is full of rotation guys and I'd bet more than a few will become all stars. I do not see one single superstar here though. Next years draft will be epic, of course. But I wouldn't overlook this one.

There will for sure some good players come out of this draft and posts like these will be heralded as prophetic...

However, I've never seen a single person say there are no good players and none will be surprise people, but I think that always goes without saying.

What people have said, including me as long as two years ago, is this draft is comparatively weak and unexciting.

Unexciting is a perfect word to describe this years draft.
