Who should the Jazz target in free agency?

I wouldn't mind giving Ray Allen a one year mid-level deal. Maybe go after a defensive big like Dalembert or a stretch big like Bonner

Well first you have to look at what they Jazz have so you can see the needs.

PG: Burke, McNeal, Neto
SG: Burks, Murphy
SF: Hayward, Carroll, Williams
PF: Kanter, Evans
C: Favors, Gorbet

It is rumored that Murphy is on his way out. Hayward will play some time at SG as well as Burks. Neto is also a combo guard and could see a little time at SG as well. With Williams injured and if the Jazz see Hayward as the SG on this team then SF is very thin. I think that the Jazz will go after a thrid string back up PF/C and a SG/SF (Foye?).

So who are the free agents that are capable of playing PF/C and those that can play SF/SG?

2013 NBA Free Agents
The following lists the 2013 free-agent class by position, followed by their 2012-13 salary. A free agent becomes be restricted when their team issues a Qualifying Offer. Only players coming off a first-round rookie scale contract or with three or fewer years in the league (whose rookie scale options were not declined) are eligible. I'm looking at PF's right now, here are some interesting names.

Brandon Wright: Young and long, blocks shots. Would be our Taj Gibson?

Earl Clark: Tweener who can rebound. Isn't a great shooter, but can shoot it. Had some really good moments last year.

Aminu: Another tweener who can rebound. Not a shooter at all, but is a great athlete.

Al Harrington: Old, but can shoot and wouldn't demand too many minutes since he is kind of over the hill. *He has two more years on his contract, but it looks like ORL is buying him out. A contender might sweep him up, but we can entice him with more money since we have to spend.

As far as wings go:

Scotty Hopson: Certified bad-*** from University of Tennessee. Played in Israel last year. Baws.

Go out and offer Tony Allen a contract too.

I'd love to have Allen on the Jazz. Move Hayward to primarily a SF, don't resign Foye and make Burks/Allen your primary SGs? Hot damn.

Plus Allen's D added to Favors, Haywards, Carrolls...get the team D minded right from the start.

Edit: There would be a huge negative in 3pt shooting from Foye to Allen but I feel Allen more than makes up for it with his D.

I'm positive we could get Allen with the amount of free money we have. He was only paid 3.3 million last year. We could offer him 15 million over 3 years and have him as a defensive stopper.

If we Burke and Hayward starting with Allen we have enough shooting to offset Allen's lack of shooting. Then bring Burks off the bench as 6th man.

I actually really like that idea. Make it happen Lindsey.

Hayward is a 2. Jazz's biggest need is at the 3, but there aren't really any decent 3s available (I don't consider Iggy a realistic possibility). I still think the Jazz should try to re-sign Millsap if the price is right. Carroll should be brought back, and I could see Foye being brought back, especially with Marvin out a while.

If Carroll is brought back to be a regular (20+ minutes per night), signing Tony Allen probably isn't such a great idea. Not a lot out there this summer. Hopefully a 3 becomes available via trade.

If they signed Allen I'd hope that Foye would not be resigned. So to me the real question is will a Allen/Burks SG rotation force Hayward to the 3? If so is that what the FO wants?

i hope this pf will be the best 12min guy in the league (and cheap), i mean jeremy evans, just enough for favors to rest

Although since Gobert is reportedly looking to come over, I suppose it's highly unlikely either Millsap or Al are re-signed.

edit: Gobert/Evans/Marvin (?) is a terrible bench big lineup.

Who should the Jazz target in free agency?

I wouldn't mind giving Ray Allen a one year mid-level deal. Maybe go after a defensive big like Dalembert or a stretch big like Bonner

Billups - solid mentor to young PGs, has a relationship w/ Burks, & not a huge treat to take a ton of minutes away
Redick - Korver may be a better fit because of history but JJ is a better defender btwn Korver & Foye.
Bargnani - a perfect compliment to the 3 young bigs & hopefully TOR surrenders a protected 1st for the salary dump

PG: Burke / Billups / McNeil
SG: Redick / Burks
SF: Hayward / Marvin / Carroll
PF: Favors / Bargnani / Evans
C: Kanter / Gobert

Will Bynum, Randy Foye, DeMarre Carroll, and DeJuan Blair. Maybe Travis Leslie.

Bynum, Burke, McNeal or Neto - Bynum will be there as the stop gap until Burke gets acclimated. Neto if he does good in the Summer League, otherwise McNeal.
Burks, Foye, Leslie
Hayward, Carroll
Kanter, Evans, Williams
Favors, Blair, Gobert

If Foye can be signed for a decent deal, he'll be back guaranteed. We need shooters still, why let our best one go?
