What's new

2014 College Football

USC held Oregon State to 181 total yards. I think it's likely Oregon State just sucks, but their QB did throw for 4600 yards last year so I'm going to pretend Boston College never happened for now and be optimistic.

And then Boston College goes and loses to Colorado State. . . Going Undefeated is difficult.

It's the same story for the Utes that we've seen for years...

Underachieve by losing to a team you had no business losing to because your offense can't come up with just avg production.

1 TD and 2 FGs for the entire game, against a weak defense, at home, is just ridiculous.

Or are Utah fans so used to this type of pathetic production that they've become satisfied with this? 1 TD and 2 whole FGs... For the entire game... Amazing

Utah's offense got outplayed badly. At halftime I looked over at my wife and told her Utah was going to lose the game. She thought I was crazy. Turns out I've seen this song and dance before.

At this point, the only thing Whit is good for recently is beating BYU, and since Utah dropped them from their schedule, he can't even hang his hat on that.

This week could be the healthiest that byu has been all season long. (including game 1)

Bronson kafusi, possibly thier best defensive player (definately thier best pass rusher) should be playing friday night.

Algernon Brown, thier best receiver out of the backfield (though not an essential piece of the team imo) should be back.

Nick kurtz, thier best (and biggest) wide receiver during the off-season might be back too...... im excited to see what he can do

It's nice to be healthy, but considering that the Aggies cant even hold on to a lead at Arkansas State, I don't think it matters who BYU has/doesn't have.

Chuckie will be back this week for utah state which makes them much more dangerous than they are with the quarterback they used against arkansas state

Style points matter. The better the players in the field, hopefully the better the result and the better the reaction to the result.

With so many ranked match ups this weekend, BYU can make some serious ground with the right result

Hopefully BYU figures out how to use these athletic 6'6" Wrs better if Kurtz is around too. They should already be throwing 2 or 3 jump balls down the field for Mitch Matthews per game as it is. But they have him running WR screens and out routes most of the time. Just seems like a waste. They need to watch tape of how USC used Dwayne Jarret and Mike Williams.

Agreed.
Byu has very good (on paper) wide receivers but taysom is not very good at getting them the ball. Definately the aspect of byu's team that i expect (and hope) to improve the most going forward...... I think that taysom is too confident in his running ability and at the same time doesn't trust his passing ability (Probably right not to) which ends up hurting the passing game.

Leslie, blackmon, matthews, kurtz, apo are all physically what you would want in a wideout but only one (leslie) has really had a good game so far.

Has Apo ever had a good game? Seems like he's been a huge let down for you guys.

Probably the biggest let down of all time for me.

I remember thinking he would be better than heaps in that recruiting class even though everyone else was way more excited about heaps.

I thought apo would be the best byu receiver of all time. He has been a total bust.

Funny that zac stout is looking like he well be the best of the 3 supposed "studs" from that class

Apo= CJ miles

On paper and warmups he looks like he could be a player.

Then the games start...

He did play well his Freshman year though - 500 yards, 9 TDs. So I would take him at face value that his bad shoulders just screwed everything up.

But yeah, from the Randy Ross nickname to that Youtube video where the scouts that run some of the major high school camps said he the best WR prospect they've seen in 10 years and stuff, he didn't have a prayer of living up to that hype regardless if he was healthy or not.

I think the Heaps/Apo signing day is a valuable lesson in how we overhype recruiting to an insane level. I promise you, on signing day there will be some Ute and Cougar fans in hear talking **** about the others recruiting class all due to rankings that are based off a star system that seems highly subjective.

Heaps and Apo were thought to be the 2 headed monster that would return BYU to Lavelle-era glory. How'd that turn out again? Travis Wilson was a 4 star kid who participated in the Elite 11 QB camp and was finally the answer Utah needed in regards to getting a PAC 12 level QB. He certainly didn't look the part last Saturday.

I used to be into recruiting, but in all honesty, it's total ********.

top 5 in-state recruit, early enrolled at utah (therefore never signed LOI), finishing his mission, considering transferring
