Throw everything at the player we should have drafted. Paul George

Hayward and Favors are gonna eat up a lot of that. Lakers and Mavs struck out on free agency this year and will be turning all eyes toward them.

I HOPE. If they do, it means they will have really upped their games. The end to a fantastic off-season would be hearing the Jazz reached extensions with both of them.

I love the flexibility and cap space available for next year, but having said that, I don't see too many players on that list that I want to come to the Jazz and think fit well with the current core.

LeBron James (ETO) - Don't want him in a Jazz uniform, don't think he will ever come to play in Utah neither.
Kobe Bryant - Kobe, enough ... great player, has to come back from injury first, and even then I don't know if he fits in our masterplan.
Dwyane Wade (ETO) - NO, big NO.
Paul Pierce - I love Pierce, but no at this stage of his career. Maybe, depending on the contract he wants.
Dirk Nowitzki - Don't see him leaving Dallas.
Luol Deng - Good player, but nothing out of this world.
Paul George (RFA) - Maybe the only player I'm really interested. Hope Jazz FO tries hard to sign him.
Carmelo Anthony (ETO) - NO, it's that simple.
Chris Bosh (ETO) - Meehhh... don't need him.
Danny Granger - Good player, I like it. Pacers are shopping him.
Pau Gasol - Don't think he can put us a step closer to a championship.
Tim Duncan (P) - Would love to have him, but I think he'll retire as a Spurs player.
Zach Randolph (P) - Just say NO.
Rudy Gay (P) - Mehhh..
Greg Monroe (RFA) - Nice one, but with Enes and Derrick you don't overpay for him.
John Wall (RFA) - Depends on the evolution of Trey Burke.
DeMarcus Cousins (RFA) - Stay away of this cancer.
Larry Sanders (RFA) - Meeehh..
Derrick Favors (RFA) - Our own FA.
Gordon Hayward (RFA) - Our own FA.
Evan Turner (RFA) - Good one, just nothing spectacullar.
Andrew Bogut - We don't need him.
Eric Bledsoe (RFA) - Maybe, same with Wall, it depends on Trey.
Avery Bradley (RFA) - No
Isaiah Thomas (RFA) - No
Ben Gordon - No
Vince Carter - No
Ray Allen - Worth it, depending on the contract, but don't think he will play beyond this year.
Shawn Marion - No
Mario Chalmers - No
Greivis Vasquez (RFA) - To play as backup yes, to be our starting PG , NO.

Just my 2 cents.

But, but ... Wade was clutch in teh Game Se7en?!

Doubt we get any of those players, but with $31M coming off the books - less the raises for Hayward and Favors and the salary for our 1st round picks - Jazz may be able to step in again and facilitate a signing or trade or two.

This. We will never get an established franchise player here by signing them. We can get someone fairly close by having that space available though.

I agree that we won't be getting a big time free agent. Our cap space will be mainly used to keep Hayward and Favors around. The expiring contracts can be used to acquire assets from teams who are looking to clear cap space for one of these superstars in free agency, like we just did yesterday.

However, what if we land Wiggins? Would that sway big free agents, you think?

We won't get big time FAs. We will get better than average FAs the second we make the WCF with a young and enduring core.

I would like to know how you and Schwayze know this sort of information.

Assuming the Core 4 plus Burke live up to expectations this season, I'd use the bulk of the cap space on extentions for Hayward and Favors--probably $8m per and $10m per respectively--and hold space for extensions for Kanter, Burke, and Burks. The only realistic piece on the lists above are Mario Chalmers or Avery Bradley as a back-up PG. Paul George will get a max or close to max extension this summer.

I don't think we necessarily have to limit ourselves to just that list. Like this year, teams will be scrambling to add the big names. In the process, they'll make available other players in order to clear space. Could be a deal like Lindsey pulled off this time, with us getting junk exprings and future draft picks. Or he could try to acquire someone like Landry, Jack, etc. Jazz won't have the full $31M available. As you said, we'll need to extend Hayward and Favors. But Kanter and Burks won't be due for new contracts until the year after. And Burke is WAY down the line.

Agreed caveat: Burks traded while value highest this year or next for 2nd round draft pick + mini-vet
the new reality of the cba is that in order to compete some of your rotation guys will have to be on rookie contracts
