wanna be a great post player? watch mchale every damn day. few tips

1. don't bring the ball down like idiot roy hibbert. keep your arms high.
2. watch how mchale gets into a deep post position every damn time. it will enlighten you. hey, randle, you don't have to do that stupid spin move every time. learn how to get deep without the basketball.
3. soft hands. eh, this is pretty much God given. aaron gordon, you shouldn't even bother.
4. footwork. this godly footwork doesn't happen overnight. watch how he uses defender to his advantage. notice the quick cut and a little swim move without fouling.


it's refreshing to revisit kevin mchale's greatness. nobody other than Hakeem touches mchale in the post. not duncan, not karl, not charles. nobody.

...would have been a great series! AA and "brains" vs. AA and "brains!" Now both teams would have crushed all those 76er teams with Dr. J. and Daryl Dawkins and George McGinnis! Only reason Dr. J. has 1 ring is riding on the coattails of Moses Malone one year! Don't know what series is better to watch: Contrasting style of "hip hop" vs "basketball brains" or "basketball brains" vs. basketball brains?" There is one type of match up that is UNWATCHABLE....."hip hop" vs. "hip hop!" Generally results in mega turnovers, few assists and p-poor shooting percentages!

....have to agree to disagree....and I've got the stats to back me up! Karl Malone's post game was second to none.....especially with Stockton as his point guard! Malone had twice as many 3 point plays as McHale....because when Malone got the ball down low in the post he NEVER DRIBBLED...but went straight up with it! McHale did too, but would put the ball on the floor sometimes, resulting in more turnovers than Malone! Oh, by the way, keep in mind that Malone has at least 5,000 more points than McHale, probably more!
 
....my bad! Malone had 20,000 more points than McHale in his career! For those who don't "obla" that's TWENTY THOUSAND spelled out! Case closed, end of story!

malone was much a better athlete, and he was freaky strong. karl could shoot those jumpers all day long. and was just a perfect pick & roll master. it was an art.
but as far as playing down low, making things happen within 10ft radious only hakeem matches mchale. and mchale played a robin role, and he didn't have longevity. so of course karl demolishes him career stats.

but in pure basketball ability, mchale was just a genius down low. if you look up a word 'crafty' i'm sure you can find mchale there.

Try to talk about what the thread title says (2014), rather than the 80's

....negative! McHale also took his share of jumpshots, but would have been fouled out more times than not trying to cover Malone down in the post! Don't get me wrong, McHale was a tough cover for anybody, but Malone was the better player, rebounder, scorer, defender, teammate, brains, talent, basketball ability, (did I mention brains?) and I'm not a "homer", either! However, just from a physical standpoint.....it does look to the naked eye that McHale was more of a product of "evolution" than Malone!
 
....by the way, although McHale did have more blocks in his career than Malone (1,600 to 1,100) Malone had over 5,000 assists compared to McHales 1,700 (Bird use to call him the "black hole!") and Malone had over 2,000 steals to McHales paltry 350! Frankly, if McHale hadn't been part of all those Celtic championships with Bird and his cast of thousands......it would be an insult to bring up McHales name in the same breath as that of Malone! By the way, McHale is a pathetic coach and /GM....and probably should have been fired more than once for either job he's had since retiring! Now, if McHale comes out on the record and says that John Stockton is the best point guard in the history of the NBA.....then I'll dig up some fine things to say about him!

overall career accomplishments, peak value, personal accolades - all karl malone without a doubt. no comparison. if you have team you build around karl malone.

but better post player? mchale.

.....so in what way/ways was McHale a better post player than Malone? Scored more points? Negative! Had better post moves? Negative! Completed more 3 point plays out of the post? Negative! Set up more teammates and had more assists in the post than Malone? Negative! Now, he did have a slightly better free throw percentage...79% to 75%.....but nothing that would tip the scales in his favor as the best forward in the low post!

yes, overall more polished down low than karl. mchale had to be crafty since he couldn't bench 425 like karl did. he couldn't over power dudes. he had to extremely skillful to manipulate defenders. just watch the footwork, craftiness, and effectiveness. it's awe inspiring. when you talk about post player, hakeem & mchale always come on top. many actually have mchale ahead of hakeem. i think it's wash. hakeem's move was prettier. he did more. but mchale was so simple and fundamental.

put it this way chris webber was much better passer than karl ever was. that doesn't mean webber was a better player than karl. get it?

......what are you Stevie Wonders brother??? "Awe inspiring?" Must not take much to impress you, that's for sure! I'll tell you what was fun to watch....Karl going straight up for the layup without dribbling and getting a 3 point play half the time! Webber was a better passer than Malone? Your kidding, right? Malone had 1,750 more assists than Webber! What Webber was good at was.....calling timeouts his team didn't have!!!

yes, it's awe inspiring. only the one who really played the game of basketball would understand how truly great mchale was down low. it's a textbook. his up and under alone is enough to make him one of the top post player ever. that move was just brilliant. scale of 100, mchale would be 98. guys like big Al would be somewhere in low 80's. there aren't many who had 90+. karl would be lower end of 90.

and look up this word 'longevity'. stop bringing how many more assists malone had more than so and so. that's a stupid argument. petrovic was a better shooter than JJ redick. are you gonna bring up how many more points redick had over petrovic?

webber was near 5 assist guy in his prime, his first 6 years with the kings. the way kings moved the ball was just simply awesome. karl's best passing years came at the same time as webber's. ask anybody on this planet who was better in passing. mid to late 90's karl? or King's webber. i know we are all jazz homers, but come on man. karl was better at everything than webber, but webber was a better passer.

we all know karl became a better passer after his physical prime was over. karl is a workaholic and always tried to get better at his craft. but webber was a natural passer from day 1 since he was ballin at michigan. webber's behind the back pass was a thing of beauty and his pass was fancier. dude was a born passer. one of the downfall of his greatness because he can be too pass happy.

his huge hand comes in handy. one of the reason why i like vonleh
