Will Barton has gotta be the MIP front runner, he averaged 3pts a game last year. His stats vs NO tonight 32-10-6........


Gotta say this is turning into one of my favorite story-lines of the season!

I don't know about most improved. More like most change in opportunity. Barton has been a pretty good player for a while. Portland just wouldn't play him. This happens often in the NBA. Coaches get scared or something and don't dare give a guy a real opportunity for fear of what it may look like. People thought Barton was too skinny to be good.

Lebron deserves some criticism. Even more so than any other player. He's been touted as being as good as Jordan sometimes. But he has this track record of not being clutch or knowing how to close things out. He's been able to do everything but that. It's not just this game. This has been an on going thing. I can think of a lot of players through NBA history I'd trust more to close out the game over Lebron. It's become a real issue for him and big black mark on his career.

Yeah, that's pretty much horse crap. All the late game stats we have point to Lebron being one of the best closers of alltime.

Basketball is more than stats bud. I know what I've witnessed. There's a reason why he's missing some hardware he could have and should have gotten had he been more clutch. He chokes in the tightest moments.

And if it wasn't for Ray Allen and that prayer he threw up, he'd be sitting on one less ring because of lack of clutchness.

I'm not really hating on Lebron. I think he's a great player, but I wouldn't bet anything in him closing out a big game I'd bet in him getting to the end in a position to win though.

Lebron is essentially the Payton Manning of basketball. Jordan is Tom Brady. We know what that means. It's not a huge knock on them because Lebron and Payton are still better than most. Brady and Jordan are a notch above them and only like few other people that have ever existed. It's hard to be clutch all the time.

The truth about all that, is the Pistons played exceptionally dirty, and that was pretty much it. It was one team. It was a thing that worked a little bit. But it wouldn't even have worked on Steph Curry. He does his damage from outside where he isn't going to be touched much. He just gets the shot off before you know what happened.

Actually I was fully on your side about Curry and 90s basketball. It's okay to be wrong sometimes. You made a stupid argument this time, and I pointed out that you're capable of doing better. No need for mental gymnastics.

Of course stats aren't everything, but they are pretty easy to use and see when our memories are being selective. Is Lebron as "clutch" as Jordan or the most clutch of all time, probably not. Is he not clutch, or one of the least clutch stars, not even close.

Also, using a finals elimination game where his team was down 10 going into the 4th and he scored 18 pts as an example of his not clutchness is... not particularly convincing.

I've been busy this season and haven't seen a lot of hoops. But I was wondering if y'all had the same impression I had:

1. That Cavs offense is horrid. It's basically everyone stand around and watch LBJ go 1 on 1.
2. The Spurs offense actually looked painful to watch. Not many 3s and they played slow. It almost looked like the old school Spurs offense with The Admiral and Duncan working the high Low. Has Parker lost a step? It seemed like Leonard was doing most of the dribble drive creation. Is Parker too slow now?

1. Kyrie's 3rd game back and up against the Warriors for qualifiers. It could certainly be better, but I'm not too worried about them. Lebron's lack of jumper could become more of an issue as the season winds on.

2. A lot more offense does run through Kawhi now, and it stalls sometimes. But they win with defense, so again not a huge issue to me.

Ray Allen got the biggest shot of the game, but LeBron was a mad man in the 4th of that game. He also made a 3 right before Allen did.

And it's not like people point to Steve Kerr as evidence for how MJ struggled in the clutch. Or how Kobe and Shaq weren't clutch cause they needed Horry. The list goes on and on. Believe it or not, role players hitting big shots is something that has always happened, and will continue to.

Every season there's a couple teams that I for some reason never watch, even though I like their personnel and style of play. And there's teams that I tune in for even though I know that team's performance probably won't be a good advertisement for basketball.
Right now I'm watching Knicks - Celtics and I'm enjoying it. Why didn't I watch these teams at other times when I opted for stuff like dysfunctional Rockets snoozeketball, toxic Suns and crying Clippers? Uninspiring Thunder and disinterested Cavs?
How can I trick myself into watching teams that play interesting basketball and have real storylines to offer over overrated sources for poor basketball drama?

Wow ... HUGE blow for the Suns. Can they fire Hornacek now that he doesn't really have a full time to work with? I don't think they can....

Only a fool would doubt D'Angelo Russell at this point. Getting drafted infront of Jahlil Okafor means you're a made man, that flew over too many peoples heads - I'm still surprised about the aftermath, and it's public perception.

Many a Laker fan has hated on him too, unjustly. They mostly either wanted Okafor, or think Clarksons better, or both. They kill him for his athleticism (but mostly didn't realize he led OSU in rebounding).

I've been arguing across the internets in his defense for several months now, and he's gonna prove plenty of it true.

Been comparing him to some sort of Steph and Harden fusion for some time, and posters get all sorts of defensive about that ****. He looks good. I wholeheartedly believe the Lakers have him on the bench and have been limiting his minutes, because their tanking.

I have to take back my words and admit that you were right and I was wrong here... the Lakers are CLEARLY tanking. Why else would they be starting Hibbert and Nance Jnr? The 2nd unit in numerous games now have been WAYYYY better than the starting unit and yet Scott has refused to play Russell and Randle more minutes.
