2015 Annual JazzFanz Current Players Draft

Not necessarily. It's not like teams sub in their whole bench at once, and Manu has always played lots of time with the starters and down the stretch.

Yeah but he never starts games and only playing 22 minutes per game. You have to factor in fatigue as well for a 38 year old guy you can do straight line extrapolation and say he'll play as well for 36 minutes when he only has to play 22 minutes in reality.

Ginobili averaged only 10.5 points per game last year playing 22 min.

That's not enough production for a starting caliber SG in this competition, c'mon now.

Look at his assists numbers. Manu makes an impact on the game in so many ways. Everyone knows this.

And why do I need a crazy scorer at SG on a team that features Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, and the Gasol brothers? I picked a guy who would be great for chemistry and knows what it takes to win a title.

That's really unfair.

Burks also has a shoulder injury and surgery at roughly the same time as Kobe - are you going to also say that he won't be playing next year?

I respect you Spy, but this is really dishonest.

Burks is young. Kobe is old.

Kobe has proven over the course of multiple years that his body can't hold up.

You know these things are not comparable.

There's a reason a player of Kobe's caliber fell as far as he did. If people genuinely thought that his body would hold up, then he would have been picked way higher. Who was it that said he didn't even include Kobe on his big board? Thee jazz fan maybe?

Again, all the media outlet including the Lakers organisation expected Kobe to be back next season which is why I decided to pick him.

Do you know something that they don't?

Bro, don't you know that all of your starters should be averaging at least 16 points per game?

I know that they said the same exact thing before last season.

Does that help?

If he is off limit then that should be made clear though so that I wouldn't have picked him.

I thought he would be given a fair chance of a recovery the same way other players are but obviously not.

Who knows? Some people voting might really like the Kobe pick. I'm just giving my take on him. I think a few years ago everyone expected Kobe to come back and play at a high level. Cause that's what Kobe always did. He was and is a warrior. But year after year he's lost the battle with Father Time and he's only gotten older and has barely seen an NBA court in that time. Now, I don't think it's impossible for Kobe to come back and play some good basketball for part of the season (I don't think it's fair for anyone to expect him to play a full season after everything he's been through). But there's serious reason to believe that his career is essentially over. If he ends up making a come back against the odds, then that would be a really cool way for him to end his career.

Well if it was made clear that OK - "Don't pick Kobe - he's off limit cos we all think he's done". Then I wouldn't have picked him.

I picked him thinking he would be given the same chance to recover as any other player.

Well, that's kinda the point: that not every player's chance at recovery is equal. It depends on the injury, the age, their history of recovering from injuries... these things don't favor well for Kobe. It's not the same as Burks' likelihood of returning to the court.
