2016-17 NBA PLAYOFFS THREAD

Warriors lucky leonard got hurt.

I don't believe they were 'lucky'. Zaza got under Leonard, quite obvious he was trying to injure him. What pisses me off the most is his reaction afterwards, jumping in disbelief like he did nothing. I would be furious If I were a Spurs fan (as a basketball fan I am now)

If this was pre 2000's NBA (and not the soft af Lebron era), you could book it that Steph Currys ankles would be getting tapped next game.

I want retribution!!

Props to the Spurs for giving it to the Warriors for most of the game. The injury bug is painful to see, even for other teams. We can empathize here in Utah.

Would have been an exciting series if the Spurs were up 1-0. Now I don't see the Spurs coming back.

Cavs Warriors lets just get on with it.

Pops not to happy about what went on with Zaza...

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich spoke out angrily about Kawhi Leonard's ankle injury, saying the star forward likely will miss Game 2 of the Western Conference finals and calling out Zaza Pachulia for his "dangerous" and "unsportsmanlike" play.

Popovich spoke to reporters Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Leonard was injured and the Spurs squandered a 23-point third-quarter lead in their Game 1 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

After taking a corner jumper, Leonard took a spill near the Spurs bench after landing on the foot of Pachulia, who said he did "what I was supposed to do and challenged his shot."

While Leonard dismissed the notion that the injury was because of a dirty play by Pachulia, Popovich said Monday that the Warriors center "has a history with that kind of action."

"The two-step lead with your foot closeout is not appropriate," Popovich said. "It's dangerous, it's unsportsmanlike, it's just not what anybody does to anybody else. And this particular individual has a history with that kind of action."

Popovich was asked whether he thought Pachulia intended to injure Leonard.

"This is crap," he replied. "And because [Pachulia] has got this history, it can't be, 'Oh this was inadvertent, he didn't have intent.'

"Who gives a damn what his intent was? Have you ever heard of manslaughter? You still go to jail I think when you're texting and you end up killing somebody but may have not intended to do that. All I care is what I saw, all I care about is what happened. And the history there exasperates the whole situation and makes me very, very angry."

Popovich acknowledged that the Spurs will have a much more difficult time beating the top-seeded Warriors without Leonard, who had 26 points before leaving Sunday's game.

"We've had a pretty damn good season," he said. "We've played fairly well in the playoffs -- I think we're getting better -- and we're up 23 points in the third quarter against Golden State, and Kawhi goes down like that.

"And you want to know how our chances are less? And you want to know how we feel? That's how we feel."

The Spurs should have won the game. They should have had another rebounder like Lee on the floor. But injuring Kawhi is the bigger story. I think that was a dirty play. Zaza wandered under Kawhi unnecessarily after the shot was released. It wasn't his momentum carrying him. He made an extra step to get under Kawhi.

I don't know if it's posted or not but I'm gonna share what I watched right now.

I really wanted to think that Zaza's foot was there unintentionally.

Then I've watched Pop's comments:

Then I wanted to reflect back to the positions he was talking about and found something:

"He could have broken Kawhi's arm..."

Kawhi's reaction was so natural that I wanted to adopt the guy!

"Did he step under?... Like on purpose?..."

....

And of course,

since Pops brought out history of one's actions, let's probe a little bit further for one of his former guns:

Damn, a few things I'm really not happy with this year with the NBA.

The Warriors forming a SUPER TEAM with no less than 4 ALL STARS ... totally decimating every single teams in the NBA and the notion of a level playing field.

Now, there's this Zaza piece of ****.

I'm starting to get sick of basketball because of all this and this is coming from an avid NBA fan.

Man I can't tell you guys how angry I am about this. These 'dirty players' should be suspended or banned for games and games. They shouldn't be able to just walk around like nothing has happened.

I can't believe the NBA is willingly letting this go. I am very very disappointed.

Funny how there's been no outcry from the Warriors players.. wasn't it Iggy who went on about the players being a "brotherhood" and not doing things to endanger each other on the court in the midst of Delly's controversy a couple of years back ? They must be OK with Zaza endangering other players be it reckless or intentional. At least Delly was always going for the ball even if it was borderline reckless. Zaza is a cheap piece of trash.

The NBA should really come down hard on Zaza, at least suspend him for 4 games or something to set an example.

I'd be very interested to see what the TV ratings were this year compared to previous years after this. It's nearly enough to make me not want to watch the rest of the playoffs.

It's a question of fairness, and that's really what gets me this year. Seems like the GSW get a 'free pass' for just about everything they do.

Those first two on bowen against VC are hella dirty. Especially the first one. Way dirtier than what za za did imo.

Good find

Zaza is a rough player and maybe a little dirty.

I finally got around to watching the video of this "dirty play" and my opinion is meh. This type of play happens most games. It looks like he took a little extra step towards him but it also look like momentum carried him. This is not even a foul 3+ years ago in the NBA. No one knows Zaza's intention except for him. Maybe it was meant to be a little dirty but I doubt he wanted him injured. Honestly the NBA calls these days are so ticky tack. Giving a guy room to land is fine but they dont call this very consistently and players like Curry and CP3 are dirty for kicking their legs out to draw contact. Honestly those guys deserve to be hurt for that ****.

I understand why people think its a dirty play and why they are upset but I still find it a solid meh situation and play. Call the foul and move on. If it was my team I would be upset to lose my player. I also understand wanting players who cause another player to get hurt to miss time but that is a slippery slope imo.

On a side note I want to see the Spurs swept. I know most people on here hate GS for being a super team but I dont really care about that. Spurs have won enough so I dont need to see anymore success from them. I also would like to see them swept so we know the Jazz are on roughly their same level. It might be nice for Hayward staying if every team gets swept by GS or at least every team gets swept by GS except Cavs who sweep the east.

This is shaping up to be a great game between Boston and Washington. I like the Wizards team and want to see them win. They are playing great on the road, although they have fallen apart other games when it gets close in the 4th. I hope Wall or Beal takes over this game. Although I want to see a shoot out in the end.
