2016 NBA Season Notes/Info

The cool thing about DeRozan is that his shots outside the restricted area are basically all 90s/00s shot selection. So what he does goes against the defensive instincts that players learn in practice where the emphasis is on pressuring good shooters outside and keeping guys out of the paint. That way he getts looks that are cleaner and he's somehow efficient from that area. Kinda like Wade always managed to defeat the analytics even after computer simulation found its way into the league.

A truly explosive 1st step used the right way is a very dangerous thing on a basketball court.

DeRozan's been phenomenal but Harden is the MVP right now tho.. He's putting up prime Tiny Archibald/Oscar Robertson type stats 30ppg and 13, apg, 8 rpg..

He is putting up amazing numbers I would have him at a close second but I understand there is an argument for #1. For me DeRozan is hitting his shots at a better percentage and they are getting to the line the same amount. Harden is getting more assists and rebounds but not scoring as much and DeRozan has a better PER. Harden is also turning the ball over at a much higher rate which offsets some of those assists numbers for me. His team is also winning at a better rate right now which is the other reason I put him in the lead. DeRozan also plays defense 50% of the game, although Harden is putting in a little more effort it is still not pretty. Either way both are playing at an extremely high level and we will see which one can keep it going longer.

I remember making a thread about trading for DeRozan here many years ago and it was really poorly received.. LOL

With Harden now at PG he's easily got a claim as the top SG in the league.. certainly so far this year he's been that.

I posted multiple times we should go after him with a max contract this off-season knowing we had almost no chance. Most people did not like him and thought he as not worth a max.

Pretty good idea, people don't like too many outside the box ideas they tend to get defensive. he'd certainly be a great match with a 4-man like Trey Lyles with what goes on in the perimeter action, I'm certain of that. It's not like you can guard him like a non-shooter, if you give him too much space he can collapse the whole defense in a blink of an eye, it's 2 points with a possible and-1 if the help comes too late..

Joe Johnson and Boris Diaw for almost 20MM just doesn't do it for me.

Burks is slightly redundant with him but can play PG, they could actually run 4-wings Burks-Hood-DeRozan-Hayward-Favors/Gobert. Burks could be traded to recoup some assets and cap space if needed. Could easily wait til next trade deadline to cut costs.. Wouldn't go into the highest luxury tax bracket signing Gobert annd Hayward if they kept eeverything else low cost.

Would increase the risk of Favors walking 2 summers from now but thats plenty of time to obviate the situation many different ways.

If the Cavs can't repeat and fall in the finals, the big question will be:
Would we have won in '16 with Wiggins instead of Love?
Would Wiggins over Love have given us enough of a punch to equalize the x games they were behind GSW in '17?

Watching Karl Anthony Towns bring the ball up the court it's astounding that he's 7'0 tall. He moves so well. And his 3-pt. attempts/game have gone from one to almost four, at 39% compared to 34% last year.

"I heard this weekend that Klay Thompson may be available, I heard that rumor going around involved w/ a team that wears green" @Scalabrine

Good trade for BOS imo. They are starving for a star player over there and Klay would be great for them as they have no shooting outside of Isaiah.

I'm not convinced Thompson is that much better than Bradley.

I know Thompson isnt better than Bradley+Crowder+Top 10 in deep draft

They arent going to move Thompson. Im calling BS on the rumors. Certainly not for that deal. That pick means notning to them right now. They are in full blown win now mode. I like Bradley, but I still wouldnt make that trade. Fantasy bssketball yes, real life no.
