It's fair to say IMHO that at this stage he's on pace to be one of the NBA's all-time leading scorers given he stays healthy and keeps improving.

He'll score 2,000 points this season at 22... For context; Hayward won't sniff 2000 this year and has never come close.

If Hill bolts, I wonder if the Jazz FO contemplate bringing Jrue here-- or if they're okay with just handing Dante the reigns (although I dread the thought).

Thats gotta be the move.. Jeff Teague would be the next best option. (presuming CP3 Steph and Lowry aren't obtainable)

I'm convinced they can't throw bad $$ at Patty Mills either unless it's completely excessive and thats unlikely seeing as Exum's here D Linds is here and the success of Ingles... even tho he's a very different look...I used to vouch for him being the Jazz starting PG last go around in free agency too.. You'd want a Shelvin Mack type of PG in the rotation with him tho..

Louisville's Donovan Mitchell who I've long compared to Marcus Smart (he's a better shooter) would be a priority with one of the 1st rd picks too.

There's a cornucopia of possible solutions in the draft really. Villanova's Jalen Brunson is Trey Burke sized but a natural PG, sharp as can be and extremely, extremely aware/smart.. He'd be a viable option right away IMO, could give Neto a run for his minutes and has a strong case for the 1st rd.

not sure if we have money for both him *and* Favors though.

The question might be if we're more comfortable with JJ and Trey Lyles being our PFs of the future, or Dante being our PG of the future.

Right now I think my money's on Dante. Trey has just been a dumpster-fire this season. It's too bad, because in theory Trey's offensive game as a stretch/playmaking 4 complements Rudy's so well.

I look at it like;
-roster moves should be used like combinations in boxing.. I'm guessing Malone and Stockton were described as a 1-2 punch many times over, right? I guess thats why I see flexibility on some of the **** rosters, even the hopeless nets TBH... There's almost like a magic cards style element to the game and most sports imo.. conditions can change real quick given different combo's.. Fans tend to focus on the individual these combinations are much more fascinating to me. It's not some ******** abstract ideas, all the championship teams have prominent combo's..

-moves should always be made with a 1-4 year outlook unless it's time to "go for it".
-When "going for it" nears you fill in the salary up to the cap with UFA's.. that to me is sort of like the Jab, the right UFA for the right team can truly do wonders whether it's fixing a weak link or adding something totally new... I think the Jazz have been balking at this, it's like a fighter that takes damage angling to get inside instead of just working off the Jab
-surpass the cap by re-signing the RFA's... These are the power shots, the haymakers that leave you vulnerable but ultimately have the best chance to help you seize power quickly.

-draft picks are varying degrees of digging for alpha assets.. this is like doing body work, (setting up the KO) you stick around and long enough and really get those shots no matter what other damage is being done (****ty coaching/signings) there's still this undeniable attrition being built from it.
-they've already secured many fliers on PG's and a possible PF rotation guy. The homework has been done here, no doubt the mistakes that get made by the FO are ones that have been overthought, i'm not saying it's a competency issue.
-I don't give a damn about fiscal responsibility when it's time to go for it. That to me is weak as **** and very far from efficiency.. the idea is to position yourself to win the championship and use every advantage possible to do so.. Like Mike Tyson's thought process when he bit Holyfield.. this is really where I get hung up on this years team, to me when I see that team salary, I see a roster thats been watered down for the sake of fiscal responsibility -- I hate that I look at this like some great hunt..

I really don't like Marcus Smart. He's probably my least favourite player in the whole of the NBA. Just never liked his lack of shooting.

But this guy seems like he can shoot? Is his shooting legit?

He's fearless tough built for defense and very athletic like smart u can throw him lobs like a swingman... kind of a tweener I think thats kind of overstated tho he can play point.

Mitchell's shown great progress offensively gaining polish too, it's a damn good sign.. He's really kinda forged himself into a star in many ways this season..

Look at this uptick in his shooting... thats no anomaly...

Freshman season - 2.3 3pt attempts per game at 25%
Sophomore season - 6.5 3pt attempts per game at 38%

Today I'd probably have him at about #20 ahead of Luke Kennard who was higher in my mock a few days ago.

OK, but from my experience for someone to be able to shoot a 3pt shot consistently in the NBA you need to be doing it in the mid 40's in college. This guy starts at 25%, yes he did improve to 38% but it's a very small sample size.

But yeah I guess if we're picking in the mid 20's next year he is a decent prospect. It's a shooter's league now and I'm always a bit apprehensive about college player not cracking the mid 40's shooting college 3's.

We've all seen the "Jazz should've drafted Booker over Lyles" posts ad naseum here..

With the benefit of hindsight when you re-trace those steps I think it reveals a move/trade target that could've been made in concert with that Booker pick which would've ultimately proven to be low risk / high reward while filling the void they hoped Lyles would..

that is;

trading a future pick for a package from PHX including Marcus Morris. Who's on the books for 5MM this season and 5.7MM next.. This obviously would've had some effect on Trevor Booker but lets say he was there as is, it would've been much easier to trade him to a contender for a pick at the deadline with Morris on the roster.

People don't like the Morris bro's so this will get a nasty response, it's a very sound move on paper tho..
