2016 NBA Season Notes/Info

For the first time ever, an NBA game on broadcast television attracted fewer than 1% of U.S. TV homes.

Thunder-Rockets delivered a 0.9 final rating and 1.5 million viewers on ABC’s NBA Sunday Showcase over the weekend, down a tick in ratings but up 11% in viewership from Rockets-Wizards in an earlier timeslot two years ago (1.0, 1.3M). There was no comparable game last year.

The 0.9 rating is the lowest ever for the NBA on broadcast television, falling below the previous mark of 1.0 for Cavaliers-Clippers the previous week, Rockets-Wizards in ’15, and Suns-Kings in 2007.

Four of the eight lowest rated NBA games on broadcast television have taken place in the past month. The games have involved some of the league’s elite teams — the Rockets and MVP frontrunner James Harden Sunday, the defending champion Cavaliers the week before (albeit without LeBron James or Kyrie Irving) and the East-leading Celtics the week before that.

Warriors look to be establishing a big enough lead over the Spurs that both can rest players for the last few games when we play them

Westbrook is not human. Blessing to be able to watch a guy like this live.

Thunder are 14 points behind, this man checks back in, murders them.

So you move on by trading out the guy and giving away a first round pick to send him off? And you bring in another C in Plumlee to try and plug in the same PF spot that Nurkic vacated? How is that logical?

Plumlee is a much cleaner fit next to Jokic. Way quicker feet, can switch. Different body type. Hard worker and above avg Center who knows his limitations. Smart cutter and passer on top. Jokic is a master at spotting cutter. They should bring in a 3rd guy to complement Jokic + Plumlee. Imagine that the Clippers implode this summer and the Nuggets manage to make a win now move to get CP3 and Ibaka.
S5 of Paul, Gary Harris, Wilson Chandler/Gallinari, Ibaka, Jokic with Murray, Plumlee, Chandler/Gallinari coming off the bench. Maybe I even forgot some good player on that roster. But that's a decent team with proper coaching.

Regarding Lance Stephenson...
He's played well in stretches this year. But let's look at the bigger picture. He played well until the last half season before extension/contract was up. Then he tried stat padding and from that point he was always in short term contracts where he didn't stay within the boundaries of the team's scheme.
$3M per year isn't that much when you consider the min contract for a 7 year vet is gonna go up a lot with the new CBA kicking in. So $3M is probably only like 50% more than the minimum without actually looking up the tables...
Locking him 2-3 years, maybe even with a team option for year 3? means you give him security. My theory is that he's a very insecure character and if he's in a volatile state in terms of the business part of the game, he's becoming more erratic in his behavior. By binding him for a longer duration, he's able to focus more on basketball(don't forget Stephenson's family is living in Indianapolis still) and won't think about getting paid as often.
We'll see if I'm right. But I think it's worth a gamble. Worst case you cut him and give him $6M.

Plumlee may be better than Nurkic next to Jokic I'm not going to argue that with you.

But aren't there other players better than Plumlee at the 4 next to Jokic? Where in the NBA Bible does it say they had to have Plumlee?

Of all the accolades Westbrook is getting, I'm probably in the minority in that I just don't enjoy watching him play. I don't. I just don't. I enjoy watching Lebron plays. I enjoy watching Curry. I enjoy watching Kobe and MJ, Stockton, Malone, heck even Barkley.

But I've just never really enjoyed watching Westbrook going for layups, or taking ill advised jumpers, or jumping for rebounds, etc. I just never have. He could have 100 triple doubles in a season and I still won't enjoy watching him play.

Long term...Think about the Ibaka+Jokic+Plumlee trio. They could all play with each other at the same time.
Also you must find another team willing to part with a Center/PF in order to get one. Maybe they wanted to move on from Nurkic's lack of (self)discipline and get something in return...

People weren't giving up much for Nurkic. His value was dead. I'm sure shipping him out to a team in their own division wasn't their dream scenario.

Are you telling me there are no other teams in the NBA willing to accept Nurkic + 1st rounder giving up another talent near the level of Plumlee?

If there aren't, I'd rather wait closer to the draft when the pick is at its highest value, package the pick & Nurkic and get someone else, surely a team will offer something better than Plumlee.

DENVER ****ed up, plain and simple. And what's more, they traded Nurkic to a rival and losing that game could mean they won't make the playoffs.

Closer to the draft a package of Nurkic + 20th pick would get you someone better than Plumlee - guaranteed.

You act like Plumlee has no value. But he has decent value. He isn't cancer(unlike Nurkic), was at the time the more efficient performer and projects to stay a great locker room guy, which is important.
They're getting the 20th pick in POrtland this year and next year they're shipping away the 50th to Denver.
The only difference in POrtland is that he getts to touch the ball more often than in Denver. Do you think a mid season spike in FT% of 16% is random? Nurkic is a ****ing emotional lesbian and Denver wanted to get rid of that distraction.

Nurkic + 1st round pick does not equal Plumlee, plain and simple.

If Nurkic was such a cancer, you tell him to stay home for the rest of the season, then you trade him in the offseason. You don't make a snap decision.

One Love ... you're fiesty today ??

This topic is very dear to my heart. I suggested the Nurkic to POR trade a few months before it actually happened, saying POR needed a young inside scoring threat to go with Lillard & McCollum.

Now they have Nurkic and he's absolutely a fantastic fit.

But I never thought POR would also RECEIVE a 1st round pick for GETTING Nurkic. It's absolute daylight robbery.

Well now they might not be able to make the playoff BECAUSE of Nurkic's 33points performance yesterday.

Don't tell me you can't get a backup big for Nurkic + 1st round pick, anywhere else in the NBA.

Plumlee isn't a backup big...He's at least an average starter. I'll stick to my gun that I'll evaluate this trade next christmas. We'll see what face Nurkic is showing then.

But would you not say Nurkic is also at least an average starter?

If Plumlee = Nurkic = average starter, why did DEN have to give up a 1st round pick? Unless Plumlee is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Nurkic, which is totally not the case.
