2017 Exit Interviews

Hood was injured so much, and even when he played he was rarely 100%. It's hard to blame Quin for going with the more reliable Ingles to try to develop some on-court chemistry.IF Hood wants to be a starter he has to stay healthy (not really something he can 100% control) and make sure he performs consistently. It wouldn't surprise me if he was starting again to start next season.

He also has to play in a less-****ty manner. Find your teammates on the offense, hustle and play hard on the defense, quit chucking bricks when your shot is not going, and find other scoring options.

Knee sprain. Said it will take about a month to heal before he can get back to working on basketball activities.

Thankfully, it wasn't worse. Kid needs to get and stay healthy. He showed major potential before injuries, and then major issues the rest of the year. The Jazz need some dead-eye shooters. Hood has such a pretty stroke when it's on. Really hope he gets healthy and can capitalize on all that potential.

So I'm listening to Hayward's exit interview. It would be very easy for him to say something present tense like, "I love playing in Utah. I'd love to come back." He's talking as though he's completed a chapter with Utah and he's "...looking forward to what's next."

I get the sense that he's excited about his future, but he's not saying anything that sounds like he's committed to Utah.

The one exception is at the very end where he says he's "looking forward to coming back better next year ready to go." That at least includes the phrase "coming back."

Rodney Hood: "Coming off the bench was an adjustment for me. I’m a starter."

Holy ****! I just listened to Rodney's interview. This part was even worse than Genessy summarized it. He sounded frustrated and he said the team won a lot of games with him starting. He repeated several times "I'm a starter". I didn't expect this type of statement from him.

Well if you are a starter, Rodney, lets see you improve your game and your consistency and we can talk about it next season.

Confidence is good, but health and consistency are needed to continue to start. Hopefully this is the beginning of that. I think Hood can be similar to Khris Middleton. But he has to prove it on the court.

He has a huge point though. His split starter/bench numbers are pretty dramatic. I think part of it might be his mentality. Maybe he tries to force it too much when he comes off the bench, trying to prove himself too much and not letting the game come to him.

I am not particularly worried about his starter status. I think he lost his spot mainly becaise of injuries and because of Ingles raising his level, while Rodney's level was falling when he wasn't right physically. I don't think this will be long-term situation either way. I think when Rodney is healthy he's starter level player easily.

I dont think he feels he is getting left behind, but it's undeniable the NBA values players who can be starters over players who come off the bench. I also think he was just generally frustrated by how ****ty he has played and the knee sprain. I wouldn't read too much into it being a problem with Hood, just seemed like a lot of stuff built up with him.

i just listened. i agree with this take.

Ah, he came off the bench only 4 out of his 59 games this season...

my worry is that Rod slid back on a couple of things before the injury, viz. his reads out of the PnR + shooting consistency. Year-2 Rod had me stoked as hell.

Plus the playoffs?

No. But that's just an additional 11 games (in which he had the amazing PER of 4.7 in ~25 minutes). He was a starter the whole season, and his woes are purely on him.

As a starter he shot 38% from 3

Off the bench it was below 20%.

I think with the starters he is able to spot up a lot more around Hill/Hayward and get 3's that he is willing to take (a lot of which Ingles tends to pass up). Off the bench he seems to force too much.

Of course this is on him to figure it out, but I also think he just performs way better with the starters. Ingles was probably the right choice in the Clippers series because he was absolutely locking JJ down, but I felt in the Warriors series Hood would have made more sense in the starting lineup.

Seriously.

You think you're a starter? Well then, play so well that you FORCE the coach to start you. That's what you do.

Tiiiiiiiny *** sample. He was a starter throughout the season. They parked his *** on the bench in the playoffs due to his horrific performance. If he played well, he would have started. The Jazz aren't running a charity for the fragile. Earn your minutes, or sit your *** down.

When you start playing for w's you're going to have some guys upset about minutes especially when you have a fairly deep roster. Exum had moments in the season, mostly early on, where he looked like he should be in the d-league. I understand if he's frustrated, I just hope he turns that frustration into motivation to work hard this offseason. Exit interviews the day after getting punked by GSW may not bring out the cheerful side.
