So, I am rewatching the playoff games from last year for fun. I wanted to see how different we looked then vs now and try to figure out what in Zeus' stankhole happened to us.

I am in game 2 and I have drawn a few conclusions.

1. Whenever we gave up big leads ( OKC made a 19 - 0 run in the third quarter) it stopped when Jerebko came in. He brought a calming force to the team methinks.

2. Donovan played with absolute killer confidence and he has been rattled since day one this year. He is clearly in his own head. He made moves last year that he doesnt come close to this year.

3. Another observation is that we had a lineup of mitchell, Rubio, crowder, favors, and Gobert in the 4th. I havent seen that lineup all year.

Is the biggest difference Jerebko? Really? Is the biggest difference rules? Is the biggest difference Donovan adjustments? Is it lineups? Is it schedule? Or is it something else? Discuss.

I have no idea why Thabo was chosen over Jerebko. Or why we couldn't just pay Favors 2x his market value instead of 3x his market value and keep Jerebko.

That 19-0 run that was sparked by that awful, incorrect 8-second call was one my angriest sports-watching moments.

Yes Jonas Jerebko and his square head is the missing link that had doomed our season. Lol.

Look, I don't think Jerebko was the difference, but in game 2 he clearly brought it. He had his moments and our team is clearly significantly worse than last year and he is the only real change. It has me scratching my head.

I clearly remember when Jerebko was burned on D twice by the remains of Carmelo, that sealed his future with this team.

I'm with you. I don't like any of the explanations the talking heads or anybody on Jazzfanz are giving. All signs point to good chemistry. My only guess is we let off the gas, relaxed a bit. Some killer mentality seems lost at times this year. You can't afford to lose focus, have lapses in this league.

To answer the OP question: No, Jonas was not the difference. And to add two things:
  • If I recall correctly, Jerebko was unhappy with his minutes and role so it was unlikely to bring him back due to the depth at the forward/pf position. I think it was something either Jones or Locke mentioned.
  • Jerebko was a nice rotation player during the regular season but he became unplayable as the playoffs progressed, especially during the Rockets series. He would be targeted on defense every single time. He couldn't stay in front of anyone.

I believe the game you just watched, game 2 of the OKC series was Jerebko's only good game of the entire playoffs last year. His defense made him unplayable, guy's were blowing by him left and right. And his offense was nothing to write home about, he averaged 1.9 points and shot an abysmal 16 percent from 3. Also, I wouldn't say this team is significantly worse than last year. We're about the same as we were the first half of last year, maybe even slightly better. We've had by far the hardest schedule in league so far and it's going to continue to be hard for the next 2 or 3 weeks. I expect us to look like a completely different team once the schedule eases up.

We're missing a top of the league nickname, the "swedish swish", which brought relevance to the team. One of my favorite nicknames of all time.

He had his moments, but he was easily the worst of our rotation players from last year.

He mentioned Chris Paul and other NBA stars "coached" him in the offseason to not take as many risks particularly going to the rim and dunking. Risk reduction is good for his insurance company and sucks for me as a fan.

As for Jerebko, didn't he lead the league in corner 3pt % last season? Jazz probably haven't missed that.

But what I think they miss is Jonas being unpredictable. The jazz blender offense is supposed to whip the ball around the perimeter, often when it made it to Jonas he put the ball on the floor and attacked like he was some sort of Gordan Giricek or something. The other jazz forwards weren't doing that.
