I’m sure I’ve asked my dad but I don’t exactly recall why they were there. His father was in the military in WW2, met a German woman there post-war since he remained stationed there, in Germany I think. At some point, he came back to the US, and she came here. They got married. He (they) then went to Izmir where I imagine he was stationed.
