2018 Annual JazzFanz Current Players NBA Draft

My apologies, Elan, I didn't mean that to sound so harsh. Not many 24 year old, 3 year vets are at peak. He has improved every year. And he has added 10 pounds of muscle this off-season. No prediction is perfect, lets watch together to see if he is who he is or not. Peace.

For god sakes, tell me why you think something don’t just throw out analytics, use your damned brain! Use whatvthe good lord gave you sure use numbers, but only as to back up what you see. Did god not give you two eyes and a Brain

It’s likecsaying Mitchell was way ahead of Stockton and Malone from their rookie years without knowing Malone wasn’t the #1 option and Stockton played behind a former allstar and quality starting pg.

Lol at you thinking this, does he use them, yes, but if you don’ttch thousands of hours watching video and analyzing game video, your dumb.

Is it possible that people actually believe that Analytic systems do not involve film study and use of institutional knowledge and qualitative judgements of experts?

Hope not

How about when Rudy was drafted because of 'how hard he played' in the workouts? I wonder how you quantify that.

Two responses. First, even the heaviest analytical systems rely on qualitative views of experts. The Jazz have listened to the likes of Jerry Sloan and the judgement on nonquantifiable aspects of the game. Numbers are a part of the system. They help test and improve hypotheses. Thee is dogmatic "all numbers are useless" Analytics people know that numbers have a role but do not provide answers. See my earlier post on this.

Second, I bet you dollars to donuts that the Jazz grade how hard someone works. It can be a subjective score or it could be based on measuring player movement in games or practices.

So.. as long as a guy can get 60% of his shots in in a drill it doesn't matter how he shoots it? Just as long as he can get them in and hence 'quantifiable'?

Haha. if you are reading my posts I'm sure you know that is not true.

So Stockton was the #2 point guard. And Malone was not the #1 scoring option.

But numbers are stupid.

Good god, those are numbers, you are using analytics, stop it!
