They do. All you can do is just act in ways that when, looking back, you'll think "yup, I did the right things, I acted like a good person, .." because then the reasons for it falling apart are largely outside of your locus of control.

They are like kids indeed :) Sorry for what you guys had to experience. I always thought of adopting a blessing for people that do not have the chance to have a child. Or you can choose not to have one and spend the energy of effort on doing good things for kids that need a hand to break out of their chains.

lol honestly if it doesn't work out and you're not at fault, generally speaking it's for the absolute best. Your feelings will obscure that reality at first but the further removed you are, the more obvious this truism becomes.
