2018 Annual JazzFanz LEGENDARY Players NBA Draft

I’m ready. Just wanted clarity on if I should pick or not. I won’t hold things up if you’ve given the green light.

And for the record, I didn’t want to weigh in on the argument because it directly impacted my pick - with that said. . . I completely believe that 12 hours is plenty of time to check in and make a pick. If you miss your time frame, the next GM should have the go ahead to make a selection.

With that said, skipping someone too much just gets stupid - especially at the top of the draft. I would suggest that after a set number of picks, there is either a pick made for them or they go back on the clock for a smaller time (maybe 4 hours or so). Not sure what the right answer is tbh.

Thank you for being honorable.

Take your pick.

Added rule on the front post:
If someone misses their pick, it moves on to the next person. When the pick-misser returns, they can choose from any currently available players. The person who was then on the clock has one hour to, if they choose, take that player themselves.

Wow, I did not see this one coming. Great player (I had my eye on him), but didn't think he would go second.
That’s interesting, because when you look at the Jazzfanz all time drafts over the past 5 years, it’s usually MJ, then either Hakeem or LeBron (who isn’t eligible for this draft).

Occasionally there will be one other guy who goes ahead of him, but the Dream is a better fit for what I want to do in this.

Also, I’m interested in moving up from my 2nd round pick (#14) for a specific target - shoot me a PM if you’re looking to trade down.

With the fourth pick, in the 2018 Annual JazzFanz Legendary Players NBA Draft, Checkbookdoc selects... Magic Johnson!

Magic was #2 on my draft board, so I am thrilled to be able to get him with this pick. The below video highlights his amazing vision. What is often underappreciated is his shooting. He did not come into the league a great FT shooter, but steadily worked his way up to a high 80's low 90's range. Similarly, he was not asked to incorporate the 3 ball into his game until the last 4 years of his career (before that he averaged less than one a game, many of which were end of period chucks). In his last 4 years he shot a healthy 35%. Factor in his ability to switch at 6-9 and you have one of the best players to build a modern team around!

A nice benefit of this pick, is that I think the drop off at the PG position between Magic and everyone else is greater than any other position, so I should have a big advantage here every matchup. FWIW, the voters of the ESPN All-Time NBA rank agree with me.

I took him third in the alltime draft in July. That draft had a bigger pool of players, and I traded up to draft him too. IMO he’s the best all around talented center to play the game. He could’ve been equally great in any era for a center

want to use the older less effective magic or prime magic? Prime magic wasn’t a three point shooter.

I don't think this is unreasonable, but I also don't think it is definitive (Kareem, Wilt, Russell, and Shaq are listed ahead of him in a lot of lists). What is amazing about The Dream is that he could be combined with any 4 players and be elite at whatever role the team most needs. You can't say that about most of the other Big men greats (e.g., Russell could never be your #1 scoring option).

First off, I don't concede to your idea that 3 pt shooting Magic wasn't prime Magic. His last 3 full years in the league were the 3 highest PER for any three consecutive years (26.9, 26.6, & 25.1). Not exactly what you call washed up! Second, my point was that young Magic wasn't asked or encouraged to be a 3 pt shooter (he was probably actively discouraged from it). However, we can see from the last 1/4 of his career that he was capable when the game moved in that direction so it is reasonable to assume that in the modern game this would have been developed much sooner.
