Fwiw the occurrence system was there pre Union. It was 8 occurrences to get fired though in the pre Union days.I don't want to derail, but I don't get an occurrence if I get a doctor's note that specifically says that I have a contagious illness. If it doesn't say "contagious" I get an occurrence.
I work in a union environment. Tons of stupid **** like that and the union seems to just love it. Occurrences is the #1 reason people get fired where I work, and it's not even close. They call it a "no fault occurrence policy" which means the reason doesn't matter. I can call in and say "sounds like there's a lot of work to do today, I don't feel like helping out with that so I'm going to take an occurrence" and it's the same as if I call in and say "My wife was just involved in a serious auto accident and is on life support, I'm going to go be with her." So I call it the "It's always your fault occurrence policy." And again, our union is 1000% in favor of this policy.
The union didn't create the occurrence system though.
