2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I agree to an extent, but Chicago isn't giving up a 1st anytime soon. Indiana doesn't have the assets any better than ours. If Minnesota trades Wiggins and a 1st, maybe NOLA is intrigued.

There might be interest, but the other team has to have the means and motivation. I just don't see many.

We even have the ability to take back Solomon Hill who NOLA doesn't seem to want. We could enable their rebuild.

This draft ain’t that great beyond the first 3-4 dudes though... a top 5 pick could absolutely be available... Indiana could do Sabonis and a pick and beat our offer or Turner and a pick... may not be all 30 teams but only takes one and our traceable asset base isn’t first on the list... I think you are under valuing Holiday... some of those terrible teams (Orlando and Phoenix) have been so bad so long that a win now move for a bet in their prime is 100% going to be on the table.

I think we make maybe a minor trade at the deadline... talking like a Shelvin Mack type of deal from a few years ago... Otherwise waiting for the offseason is prudent imo. I'd rather wait than make a deal for Conley or Porter atm... those are the guys most likely available. Let the Wiz cut that tax check and miss the playoffs... then lets see what the price of OP Jr. is.

Minor trade doesnt make sense.

I dont think a conference contender like Indiana would sacrifice Turner or Sabonis and a pick especially since Oladipo went down.

Phoenix will not send a draft pick for Jrue. They are too many moves away and too young to sacrifice that much.

Orlando is the best bet. However, they are Vucevic leaving this summer away from being in the same spot as Phoenix (Gordon and Bamba vs Booker and Ayton). Orlando is better served getting somebody young like Rozier, DSJ, or somebody else.

I could be wrong, but I think Jrue is a last piece type guy and not a "he is going to make us go from awful to relevance guy". What team is willing to push all their chips in the middle of the table to go from really good to hopefully great?
Us?
Portland?
Maybe a Dallas (no picks though)?
Houston (no assets)?
Charlotte (massive gamble if Kemba leaves)?
Philly (sacrifice summer moves)?

If Philly wants him, they got him. Orlando maybe too. Outside of those, I like our chances...

I think you are wrong... Indiana can't play Sabonis and Turner together a ton... If they bring back Thad I think one of those guys is available for a more more flexible piece... Phoenix is irrational... I think you are underselling Jrue's market. If they said he's available they'd have 10 teams at the door willing to make competitive offers.

The package we are throwing out there is fine... but it's not something that moves their timeline for trading him. You'd have to throw Sabonis, or a juicy pick or prospect to get them to bite now... not the "meh" package... that will be available to them whenever they want.

The combination of Favors and Exum is very appealing. Exum's contract might look bad to us, but $10 million is not that bad a deal especially when you consider the cap rises by $7 million and luxury by even more than that this summer.

A team like Charlotte would happily take Favors and Exum over bums they got. Orlando probably too.

Exum on his own probably doesn't get much. Exum and Favors could be seen as a good haul depending on the team.

"Sometimes no move is the best move."

title of DL's novel? This deadline I think that might be correct. The NBA landscape could change this offseason... not sure if you want to make a big move before that happens or wait for more info.

You are probably right, but I still don't think that many teams would come bidding. His contract is huge and the biggest reason NOLA has for trading him would be to dump that contract. We have expirings that other teams simply do not possess.

But our best offer is pretty weak unless we can get a 3rd team involved.

Every year I write about the desert mirage between the draft, free agency, and the trade deadline. Regardless of where we're at in any of those, we feel that we should wait things out because the next event on the horizon looks good. Now, I don't know what we should do at the deadline, but I'm of the belief that you should get what you can get when you can get it.

We are dumb if we wait until summer. There are going to be some absolutely horrendous deals signed this summer.

Half of the NBA teams have around max space or more AND half of current NBA players will be free agents. Almost every team will have either space or at least the $9 million MLE.

Gonna be a **** show

I think he's a top 30ish player who is paid like a top 30ish player... he fits on nearly any team in the league too... Can't say never healthy project like Exum at 10M is no big deal and say Holiday's contract is a hindrance. They really don't have pressing salary concerns once AD is gone anyway.

The locker room and off the court stuff matters a lot... IF he gets dealt they will need at least one premium asset... maybe we can get a third team to pony up another first and overwhelm with volume, but I'm very doubtful.

If Allen got some burn and was really good second half maybe this offseason he helps move the needle... same with Exum. Outside of that I don't see us having enough to make it happen... which really sucks.

I agree... I just don't see what is out there being worth what we give up. Last year I would have tried to do something and this offseason felt like there were some bargains... don't know for sure but don't like the way this trade market lines up. I'm lukewarm on some of the guys most mentioned to be available.

I guess. I think he is more of a top 60 player who is paid like a top 30 player, but I get your point.

I don't think Jrue gets back a premium asset. (top 7 pick or a proven youngish player).

What we got to hope for is another team out there who likes Favors enough to send us a 1st (gotta be Charlotte). Then somebody like Orlando who likes Exum enough to send an asset and then we send 3 1sts plus those assets with expirings.

Still think it doesn't happen. We really, really need this AD trade to go down prior to the deadline then Jrue to ask to move on.

If Jrue demanded a trade a package we could offer gets interesting. Everything I’ve read about the guy says he will not do that... just not that guy. He’d have to be super frustrated... maybe a year or so down the road. I think NO is most likely to just try the Nuggets retool model... right or wrong.

You're right, he isn't that guy.

If NOLA accepts a trade for the LA young guys before the deadline, they owe it to Jrue to find him a contender and owe it to the fans to tank like crap to get the best pick possible to put with those young guys.

I would hate to see Jrue suffer while Ingram and Lonzo learn to develop.

The Sixers might trade Fultz to get Dedmon. https://www.peachtreehoops.com/2019...e-rumors-interest-philadelphia-76ers-deadline

"Seeing Dedmon and Fultz (who is on the books for $8.3 million this season) in the same sentence with regards a trade is slightly jarring and seems unusual on the surface. With that said, Bontemps cites the Sixers’ salary complications as a reason why Fultz would be included in a deal.

Therein lies the problem for Philadelphia. On a roster devoid of mid-tier contracts -- nine of the 76ers’ 15 players make $5 million or less -- trying to construct trades that don’t involve Fultz but will still bring back talent that can help will be difficult."
