Favors may be better production wise individually than a lot of players. But you don't seem to take in to account fit and how the team as a whole plays. That stuff truly does matter.I'm in favor of playing the players that produce. Favors is currently our second-best player in that regard. When he stops producing, I'll stop saying he has great value on this team.
I like to follow where the data leads, not some starry-eyed, amateur notion of what should be.
I'm in favor of playing the players that produce.
But by that logic Favors should play over Gobert since the lineup of Rubio Mitchell Ingles Crowder and Favors is better than the one with Gobert.Favors may be better production wise individually than a lot of players. Favors produces much better than Crowder and imo is the better player.
Yet why is the Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, Crowder, gobert lineup so much more productive as a whole than the Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, favors, gobert lineup over last year and this year? How could that be the case?
Also, small sample size, I think we are undefeated when Crowder starts and favors comes off the bench.

Our #1 need is a PG. Maybe Rubio or Exum starts playing better and solves that. We have until the trade deadline to see. If neither can step up by then we need to make a trade for either a really good pg or a PG that can shoot the 3, set up the offense, and not turn the ball over.
Next is nother All Star level player. But that's wishful thinking that we can land one or outbid for one without gutting our team too much.
I do like the idea of Mitchell becoming a point guard, Exum backing him up, and trading for it signing a solid shooting guard.
I'm also still hoping Exum can get a consistent 3 point shot and then he can handle starting at pg or playing off guard.
Last year our 5 best players according to PER are Gobert, Favors, Mitchell, Exum, and Sef. That lineup did very well and should have played more together.
Yet why is the Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, Crowder, gobert lineup so much more productive as a whole than the Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, favors, gobert lineup over last year and this year? How could that be the case?
Favors is at 30.8% from 3 this year on one attempt per game. Hoping he can get that to 32-33% by the end of the year. And next year, up the attempts to 1.5-2.0 per game and the % to about 35%.
Very good post and great point about going against the bench vs starters. I didn't think about thatPart of that could well be the fit under the current system. I suspect part of that is Favors starting the game against the opposition's best unit, and then Crowder comes in to face off against the bench unit. So for about half/third of their time, Rubio-Mitchell-Ingles-Crowder-Gobert faces bench unites, while Rubio-Mitchell-Ingles-Favors-Gobert faces starters.
Also, part of my thought process is that an NBA coach needs to adjust the system to match the players, and I think Snyder could be doing more of that as well. However, maybe he is doing that, and I'm just too ignorant to see it.
How about their unprotected pick this year?"The Houston Rockets are reportedly willing to include a draft pick or two in order to trade point guard Brandon Knight and his $15.6 million guaranteed contract for the 2019-20 NBA season." https://bleacherreport.com/articles...night-available-as-houston-eyes-wing-or-guard
