2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

For the Hardaway peeps

https://nypost.com/2018/12/19/knicks-come-clean-on-dreaded-tim-hardaway-diagnosis/

Tim Hardaway Jr. has been playing with the dreaded plantar fasciitis in his right foot, a chronic heel ailment that could affect him the rest of the season, according to Knicks coach David Fizdale.

A slumping Hardaway will return to the lineup Wednesday, when the Knicks visit the Sixers after sitting out one game against the Suns with the sore heel. But this has been going on for more than a month.

“Plantar fasciitis is nagging,” Fizdale said at Wednesday’s morning shootaround at Wells Fargo Center. “Some days it aches so bad, you can’t move on it. Other days you can tolerate. He’s trying to manage it.”

Saw that... may be part of his terrible recent play. Kind of a red flag there... he's had nagging injuries in the past. That's gonna hurt their ability to move him.

Gallo is the only name that makes any sense to trade for, because he's actually legitimately really good and maybe on the fringes of attainable.

If we somehow moved Exum in a trade for Gallo we'd still have about $18M in space... might be enough to get Bledsoe or Brogdon. Could get close to a max deal if we moved on from Crowder and Korver without taking back salary.

We should have traded Burks for Trevor Ariza:

Gobert
Favors
Ingles
Ariza
Mitchell

Defense: Check
Threes: Check
Length: Check
BBall IQ: Check
Championship Pedigree: Check

I agree that Gallo is gettable. By all accounts the Clippers are shocked at how well their season has gone and they've gone on a bit of a skid since their schedule toughened up. Jerry West is no dummy, and he would absolutely trade Gallo for some assets this year and to clear cap space to go big game hunting instead of keeping him to maybe make the playoffs.

I only really like Crowder as a starter... what if... we got Gallo with Favs and Crowder. Clips still have one max spot and are close to getting two if they waived Harris' cap hold.

If Gallo is starting then Crowder isn't as necessary... clears some somewhat meaningful space for us to pursue a good backcourt shooter to pair with DM... move Exum too and you are able to get close to max space again.

West scares me... he does quite well in trades. I'd be worried at the end of the call we had just traded Rudy and DM for Gallo and a second rounder.

Phoenix does that why?

Dude settle down, Lindsey would never never never do that. Remember, he doesn't like 2nd round picks. ;)

Shooooot! we'd get Ty Wallace back and give a second rounder.

Gallo fits, but this whole "keep the powder dry" plan loses it's luster when we spend $30 million on Gallinari and Korver combined next season.

I think Gallo only makes sense for us if we trade for him next summer should we lose out on all the primary options.

I like it. Wouldn't most Jazz fans revolt if we traded beloved Favors AND we took on Gallinari's $20 million for next year?

Nah I don't think anyone loves Favors that much, not when you can put a 19 ppg, 45% 3 point shooting stretch 4 out there. Udoh's minutes would go up by +10. and Crowders probably down -10.

Why do they do it at that point? If they don't get Kwahi or KD... or both... then they'd absolutely want to keep him. He's available now, in theory, because they think they can sign all the free agents... when those dreams die they just run it back.

I think we are saying the same thing but in different ways.

I don't know if he is available now. If you are the Clippers, why would you trade a guy now when you might not have a guy to replace him? It would be like trading Favors for an expiring. Why would we do that when Favors might be the best thing we can keep this summer? If the Clippers had a record between ours and Phoenix, I could see it being more realistic.

The reason I think it could happen this summer is because I think the Clippers will break the bank to keep Tobias and also lure one other big player (or at least sign them to an offer sheet). At that point, the Clippers would need to trade Gallinari which is where we could be the beneficiary if we strike out elsewhere. If they don't get another, they keep Gallinari.

Wait, the guy who is busting his nut over getting D-Lo is hesitant over Gallinari?

You can't make this **** up.
Wait, so if someone really likes a certain player than that means that they also have to like another certain player?
