2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

All this trade talk, bringing up mediocre players that would not put us over the hump. The jazz need to figure out what their identity is. Is it a defensive or offensive minded team. I feel like we hover in the middle. You want to make our offense better than we need to shoot for a 3. Won’t be a popular idea, but let’s dangle Gobert out there for Anthony Davis. Our defense will suffer a bit. But our offense will be much better. Are we trying to win and keep up with the super teams or are we just trying to stay relevant? Sale tickets? And make the fans of this board happy for a while?

We gotta get to the hump before we can clear it. We need a move or two and to hit on a pick or two.

Who’s giving more?
I think almost everyone.

I don't see how anyone wouldn't want him on his contract.

*Unless Im just missing something on him, but his stats look like he's been pretty damn good. I know he's a subpar defender, but he's such a high level foul drawer and shooter*

Why? If you could get someone like that then you take a shot. It would make us a contender overnight. I know it would take more than just Gobert but if the reward is higher than the loss than I say go for it. The mediocre trade ideas from Lopo among others doesn’t push the needed much. If at all.

Lol.

Dangle Rudy out there for AD.

Why does everyone believe New Orleans wants to trade AD?

Why would NOLA even want Gobert? They would have the exact same issue of him leaving them with 2 years. If they're trading AD, it's going to be for guys on their first contract and draft picks.

Injury concerns will always come up with him... fair or not. I think he's actually okayish on defense.

The issue is teams that don't care about cap space next year (the terrible teams) want draft assets or young guys as compensation for their cap space rental... not actual good players. So the teams that would theoretically give up on some of their FA dreams for a player now are small. An acquirer would also need large expiring contracts. So a team like NO would likely love to have him, but have no expiring deals that aren't attached to important players. They could swing Solomon Hill to third team and give a pick... but then are they giving another pick for Gallo? Nah.

Teams I think that would punt on future space to get Gallo and have expirings - Sacramento, Dallas, Utah... maybe Portland or Indiana. I don't think he's a great fit with Dallas or Indiana. Sacramento and Dallas aren't offering a first in that kind of deal.

Clips may not feel pressure to move him until the offseason... but would be kinda dangerous if they are pursuing two max guys, trying to stay in the Tobias Harris discussion, and then need to move Gallo if they get a yes... when teams that might do the Gallo move then likely have other players that are a higher priority.

I think expirings and maybe a second or two would get it done. His shooting could also tail off and teams might think his hot start was a little bit of fool's gold. The most I could see them getting is expirings and a cheap semi-useful player or middling prospect (say Justin Jackson from the Kings).

Boston is sitting #5 in the east with an 18-12 record. They had higher expectations entering the season.

32-year old Al Horford has missed the last 5 games (also missed 7 out of last 11) with knee issues. Last night their back-up big Baynes broke his hand.

This leaves them with their super athletic but time challenged Rookie Robert Williams (no relation to former jazzman Bobbie Williams) as their center.

Boston is once again sitting on a bunch of trade-able contracts and draft picks. Its no secret they want Anthony Davis but the Pelicans have said they will keep Davis through the season. If Boston wants a stop-gap at Center would they make a deal for expiring Favors or expiring Udoh?

I'd have to get 150 cents on the dollar in any deal with Boston... I hate them so much... they'd probably do better elsewhere. Favs isn't trade eligible for a few weeks and they need help now. I can't see them giving a whole lot for Udoh and I wouldn't sell him off for anything less than a really solid second round pick. He's too good of a human to give to them... let alone the basketball stuff.

For what? Hayward?

F he got dealt to Boston Udoh would probably end up making a bunch of money next summer. Boston media bias would immediately describe him as next Wilt, probably push him for DPOY.

Are they giving us Marcus Morris and Jaylen Brown?

It seems unlikely the Jazz will trade with Boston but Boston is gonna make trades. I'm interested to see if they push for AD and what they do after they cant get him.

They can't trade for him until the summer... its a long boring CBA restriction story, but trust me they can't have both him and Kyrie this year. Once Kyrie signs his new deal the restriction is lifted.

I bet they trade Terry Rozier for a pick somewhere... get a liquid asset to help in future deals... I bet they also try to get under the tax. They are close now and can push the repeater tax back a year by doing so... will be a real concern for them over the next few years.

DL won't be calling Danny the Snake Ainge, you can be sure of that.

For a 1st round pick I'd do it, but DL would never do that. He'd never take 1 step back for 2 steps forward, for some reason.

One reason is because there is no guarantee of the two steps forward.
