2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Looks like Wiz might extend Satoransky per reports on the Twitter... that sucks... I like him for us if we move on from Ricky/Dante or both.

Also, Dhillon Brooks out for the season... Memphis gonna join the tank ranks soon... I feel a Gasol/Conley trade or sitting extended games because of soreness coming. Grizz are fantastic at tanking.

Let's trade for Conley and Gasol. It's only like $50M combined.

Exum
Rubio

Clutchfans proposed we do this trade: Utah acquires Mike Conley for PG Ricky Rubio, SF Kyle Korver and SF Thabo Sef0losha and a lottery-protected 2019 first round pick.

Yeah, I wish. We would be so much better with Conley.

I like Conley a lot... I dislike his contract (given age and injury history a lot)

I’d trade for straight expirings but they’d for sure want more... I’d have a hard time throwing the pick in the deal as that contract could get ugly.

I’d trade for Blake Griffin though and put a pick in... it’s a risky contract but it’s for a guy who is top 15ish when healthy versus a guy like Conley who is top 40ish when healthy. If we are putting that many chips on the table I want more upside.

People were talking about it so I threw out a scenario.

Like HH, I would love to have Lin if we needed to trade Rubio or Exum as part of a bigger deal elsewhere.

I even think Lin would fit better with the current team than Exum would but Dante’s growth and Lin’s injury history would make me pause if I’m DL.

Conley
Spida
Jingles
Crowder
Gobert

6th man gasol.

I know this is all tongue in cheek... but Gasol doesn't strike me as a dude that'd be cool being a sixth man.

I do wonder what they end up doing. they are a few games out of the playoffs and their next 7 games are fairly tough.

I'd actually start him next to Gobert. What are guys like PJ Tucker going to do?

Neither am I but I look pretty badass against my 10 year old. 7'1" vs. 6'6".

PJ Tucker is 6' 6" and I don't have the exact numbers in front of my but I believe he has never ever been scored on ever.

Lin is better than Exum. If we get Lin and let Ricky go Lin should be starting.
I think the assumption is that if the Jazz let go of Rubio in the first place it'll be because they think Exum is their future going forward at the spot or they can get a significant upgrade. Lin isn't a significant upgrade he just brings a different skillset to Rubio (he might be a slight downgrade potentially), and because he's got some size and can shoot pretty well both off catch and shoots and pull ups, I think he's ideal at a 6th man for the Jazz as he can play with both Exum or Mitchell, or play with both. You can still find plenty of minutes for him in that role if he can handle it.

I also have some questions over his play with the Hawks, like his efficiency this year is at 63.0TS% which is significantly higher than any other season in his career (closest is 57.2TS% with Houston a while ago, I'm excluding last season since it's a one game sample size) so what is the reason behind that? Is it because he's playing the least amount of minutes per game since his rookie season? Can he do that night in night out with starters minutes in the West? Is he starting to lose some of his athleticism/1st step now that he's into his 30s and had significant injuries in the last few years?

I'm skeptical that he would be a better starter than Exum for the Jazz. Again it's worth mentioning that the assumption would be that if they let Rubio go it's because they think Exum is the future at PG for them, so you have to assume that his recent stretch before the ankle sprain would become somewhat the norm for the Jazz to do a move like this in the first place.

edit: Lin's efficiency also completely plummets on the road to a still very respectable 56.9TS%, but he shoots an absolutely ridiculous 70.7TS% at home. I just have a hard time believing these numbers are legit considering historically he's been around 55TS% for his career and he's entering his 30s.

While I agree with most of what you said I think Exum is nowhere near to being ready to be a starting PG - that recent stretch is too small of a sample to base such a decision on it. Lin on the other hand is more than capable to run NBA offense on regular basis as long as his body is holding up. And honestly I think unless Ricky is absolutely crazy and unreasonable Jazz and him will come to a new contract option ( something like 15mil/year for 3 years). I think he likes it here and Jazz obviously like what he is giving them as well. I doubt whatever Dante has shown is enough to convince Jazz FO to give up on Ricky and roll with Exum as their starting PG.

Even at 55-57% its still fairly efficient for a bench guard creator. He's shooting at the rim more, and making more of those attempts. His FT rate has gone up quite a bit... Just guessing that part of the increase is fluky, but I'll bet he is a beneficiary of freedom of movement and more fouls being called. He is likely not a 63% guy, but I'll bet he settles in around 60%.

The home road thing is almost all due to better 3p% at home... its 10% higher than on the road... I think that is purely a fluke.
