I do like the idea of Porter Jr in an organisation that actually knows how to develop talent properly, think it would really bring out the best in him defensively.
Tbh with how our team is playing even being down some guys, plus the fact that we have one of the easiest schedules in the league and I think we finish the season on a 15-5 run and go into the playoffs as one of, if not, the hottest teams in the league with home court advantage. I think we will win the 1st round of the playoffs and maybe even round 2 depending on who we match up against.
It might be better to hold onto that cap space and go after a free agent. We might be very enticing to a free agent after another strong regular season and deep playoff run with a stud star Spida and a guy like Rudy plus a young star coach and really nice supporting cast.
I believe Donovan (plus a but load of cash) will be able to attract a big time free agent to this awesome roster and management/culture we have going here.
I was thinking we need to make a trade but I'm leaning the other way now towards attacking free agency

But what about Blake Griffin?
Anyone see that postgame clip yesterday. He obviously wants to be on a team that takes winning more seriously. And talk about your 25+PPG threat, and the fit is great.
Well how much does Detroit even want to keep him? That contract is tough for a team going nowhere. Trading them at least puts them firmly on one side of the tanking fence, which I'm sure the fans would prefer. They are still in the thick of that #8 seed eastern conference battle doe.
I'd like it, but personality, injury issue, contract are a little scary. The upside is huge though. Not sure he is gettable... he's like all they got. He's under contract forever so he's got no leverage.

The injury stuff, age, and contract are obviously concerns. But man, a shooting, playmaking, PF who can get buckets. I get giddy thinking about him in our offense. Mitchell, Gobert, and (healthy) Blake is a team I'd be happy to go to war with for the next few years. That team would be a problem.
Pelicans are screwed. Even if AD comes back after tonight's game their next 4 are brutal. They are behind and will lose ground... wonder if they wake up and realize the AD era is over and they should move on?

I’m not sure how it all works with cap holds and everything but there’s something to this.I understand your logic, but I have to disagree.
To play in free agency this summer, we have to renounce Rubio and Favors. So even if we got Tobias, we would lose two good contributors without the financial ability to add another great piece (we would only have the $4.6 million room exception since we would be a below cap team to start free agency). If we make a trade now, we still have the rights of Rubio or Favors, can spend the money to keep them AND we would have the $9 million MLE exception to add even more. So put it this way:
WAIT FOR FREE AGENCY - Maybe add a player but lose Rubio and Favors. After adding the player, we can use $4.6 million room exception. Tobias+$4.6 million player
TRADE NOW - Add a player, keep Rubio or Favors AND have a $9 million MLE exception to use. Otto+Rubio+$9 million player
I like your optimism but I'm not convinced we attract a top tier talent without making it to the conference finals or beyond. We may get a guy like Niko or Jabari in FA...is that enough? I don't think so. Swing for the fence now, and try to land the key piece seems like a more successful strategy. Even that is a long shot. So, we continue to build the brand, hope we hit it lucky in the draft again, and develop from within.Tbh with how our team is playing even being down some guys, plus the fact that we have one of the easiest schedules in the league and I think we finish the season on a 15-5 run and go into the playoffs as one of, if not, the hottest teams in the league with home court advantage. If they can get Kuzma, they should make the deal right now. If NOLA made AD available to LA, they could probably get anything they want from LA minus LeBron. For our sake, I hope this happens. If LA gets AD in the summer because AD forces NOLA's hand, LA won't have to send as much to get him. An LA with AD, LeBron and Kuzma would be so scary. And they would still have money to spend....

You can trade in the offseason, and a S&T typically doesn't make sense anymore, but could make sense for the Jazz (and obviously would make sense for the team who would lose their player for nothing) in order to keep Rubio or Faves. Like for example if the Clippers landed one star, Tobias wants to sign with us, we could work a sign and trade in which the Clippers got Faves, and depending on the date, could waive him or pick up his option for one more year and keep their 2020 cap space open for maybe another star?
Trading now limits the Jazz options... that's why it would only make sense to trade if it's a favorable deal (aka ONLY Faves and Sef for Otto, no asset) since there are other options like trying to land a player in FA.
I'm not sure the Favs scenario works...
I'm cool with throwing our first (or Grayson if he has value) into a deal for OP jr. I think he is in a similar tier as Tobias... they are just different.
Exactly.Show Tobias the clip of DM high giving the crowd and then a highlight of the clippers arena dead silent or cheering for the warriors or lakers... then get his Bank account info so we know where to send the direct deposits.
