2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

"The NBA requires that incoming and outgoing salaries are within certain percentages of each other for teams operating over the cap. For the Jazz to make up the difference between Conley’s and Rubio’s salary, the team would have to add in just over $9 million in salary to any deal. Derrick Favors ($16.9 million) or Dante Exum ($9.6 million) would do the trick.

Perhaps most likely, though, is an assortment of players that includes Thabo Sefolosha’s deal ($5.2 million), plus any two of the following low salaried players that add up to more than $4 million: Ekpe Udoh ($3.3 million), Raul Neto ($2.1 million), Grayson Allen ($2.0 million), Tony Bradley ($1.6 million), or Georges Niang ($1.5 million)."

Not giving up an extra assets besides Rubio is huge for me. There is nowhere else to take our business.

I'd rather have Exum than that 2021 pick.

Depends on his health but I’m inclined to disagree. Encumbereding that pick also means you can’t trade another pick if you want or need to... just think we still need to hit on one or two picks if we want to win a title... even with Conley.

I think the trade machine is broken. I don't understand how Exum+Rubio works while Rubio+Sef+Udoh+Niang wouldn't work... especially when those four make more combined salary than Rubio+Exum.

We need to turn Tomic into something. Did you guys know Tomic is one R away from being an anagram of Mirotic?

Just don’t overpay... if Detroit is the other offer their pick is better but not if they protect it... if they snuck into the playoffs it’s like a difference of 5-7 spots... for 25-30 million in extra trash salary. We just saw what financial flexibility is worth... don’t discount how much we saving these guys.

We had financial flexibility when almost no one did last Summer and did nothing. Now everyone has it.

I'm tired of the possibilities. Let's get better.

The perfect move isn't going to fall into our lap.

That’s fine but there is a strong chance what Mike makes the next two years is more than he’s worth on the floor. They paid a premium for loyalty and are now getting out of the worst part of that deal. There’s also a chance he declines so rapidly or gets hurt and is a millstone.

He’s really good... we haven’t tried to do anything with our flexibility but it wasn’t nearly as accessible last offseason... we will get something with that space this offseason... no need to force a deal.

So my guess would be the jazz offered and the grizzly have said we want more so the jazz are now out of contention. I know ... Riveting . I actually wish no one would report until it's done. I get all excited and now I'm sad. This meeting in in is brutal

I’m guessing they’d take Detroit’s offer if they can find a way to not take back as much bad money next year. There’s a chance they are trying to flip Rubio to a third team for assets or Favs... sometimes they say “this is who we will put in a deal” and allow the other team to shop them for deals. It all takes time.

Worst case is they take another offer and I’m cool with that... the offer we’ve made is fair.

I hate when DL over pays and he seems to always over pay.
