2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Utah 2019 1st >> Philly protected 2020 1st

Miami 2021 1st >>> Utah 2019 1st

We could have given sooner 2nds as well.

People are regarding the 2019 draft class as crap. I mean I don't know if 2020 is better, but if you can get a top 25 pick in a draft class like last years or a top 15 in a class like the one we drafted Kanter, you take the top 25.

There is still a chance that something goes awry on a Jimmy Butler team as well. Let that sit for a year and hope for dysfunction.

I don't know if it's funny or should be concerning, but we spent all yesterday talking Lakers and we will spend all morning talking Clippers.

If the Lakers don't get AD before the deadline, they will be in panic mode. Are the Clippers going to sell everything by tomorrow?

Crazy LA days...

Top 15 in the Kanter class gets you Kawhi, so not the best example to prove your point.

I'm just happy that there is a pathway for adding Conley and Gallo while keeping Favors, all the while the Lakers getting screwed. Couldn't ask for more.

The Jazz had no chance to top that 76ers offer. Because we don't have a valuable asset like that Miami unprotected pick to offer.

This is a reason why I keep saying that I'm okay if the Jazz do make a trade for Conley. There are a limited number of players who make us a better. That list gets even shorter when you factor in who is actually obtainable. We all thought Harris was was on that list but another team had an offer we couldn't match. I bet that happens a lot. If we have the best offer for Conley, then the time to act is now. It's better to be proactive on a deal that makes you better than reactive waiting for something better (that may never come).

I don't know if that pathway exist because:
1. Memphis doesn't seem to desperate to deal
2. Gallinari might not be gettable if they deal their first to get Conley (don't get the sense the Jazz want to give up two first)

I think its an either/or situation, not an and.

Memphis isn't desperate, but are considering options. We'll see what happens, but I'm thinking Lowry isn't enticing Memphis.

I think we got to get creative. Like this Philly deal, we need to be aggressive and think outside the boxes where we all are looking right now.

Maybe Conley is a smoke screen for Lowry (who we liked before).
Maybe we get involved in some salary dump where we get long term value (Miami, Detroit, Charlotte).

Thabo and Udoh are prime expirings. Great value in the current market.

It puts the ball back in Simmons' hands more often which is what you want (especially if he gets a jumper, dude will be special)

He will never get a jumper. He’s played basketball his whole life and still can’t shoot. It’s always going to limit his ceiling.

I don't see Utah making a salary dump move as they aren't in that mindset UNLESS the value for them is so stupidly astonishing they can't pass it up. Utah has busted its butt to keep flexibility as its Prime Directive, so no reason to tie it up long term beyond Mitchell's rookie deal. Assuming trajectory holds, Utah HAS to do something in a year or two, but SHOULD so something sooner rather than later as in the offseason. This deadline might be a bust dealwise, but Utah doesn't have to make a trade.

Yeah, I'm thinking they just table it and try to trade him in the off season.

Remember, they don't have absolute incentive to lose. Their pick is top 8 protected this year, and if it doesnt convey its top 6 protected next year, then unprotected the following year.

Its probably in their best interest to get it to convey this year since its a weak class. That is unless they think its worth a 10% chance at Zion. That's probably the best odds they can reach this year if they tank.

Agreed. I'm kind of intrigued to see Conley in a Jazz uni, but I think Utah and Memphis are at the "fair offer as it stands, but let's think about it" stage. Memphis has some luxury, so more power to 'em. And if the Jazz don't get Conley or back out, it's no loss to them.

Here I come again to poop on a possible trade target. Danilo Gallinari aka Glass.
Games played each season:
28 - 81 - 14 - 48 - 43 - 71 - 59 - 53 - 63 - 21 - 44
Let me puke.
Currently Out
Gallinari (back) is listed as out for Tuesday's game against the Hornets, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. (about 1 day ago)
