2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Forget Gallo, I’d give up our first for Williams. Maybe Williams and Beverley. Then trade for Niko. I think we’re going to be left out in the cold, though. We don’t have much of value.

I don't see Utah making a salary dump move as they aren't in that mindset UNLESS the value for them is so stupidly astonishing they can't pass it up. Utah has busted its butt to keep flexibility as its Prime Directive, so no reason to tie it up long term beyond Mitchell's rookie deal. Assuming trajectory holds, Utah HAS to do something in a year or two, but SHOULD so something sooner rather than later as in the offseason. This deadline might be a bust dealwise, but Utah doesn't have to make a trade.
They don't have to make a trade, but we should. If we are able to pick up an asset for a player who expires in 2020, we can use that asset to make a summer trade.

With Tobias seemingly off the market, summer max cap room is now unnecessary. We could easily pick up a $10 million deal and still have enough room to make deals with our $20+ in space.

We need to pick up an asset before the deadline. Letting Rubio, Favors, Thabo and Udoh just expire is a waste.

Eh. There’s only one ball ... chemistry will be interesting

Hopefully Harris won’t like seeing his production going way down, between Simmons Embiid and Butler, Harris will be relegated to spot up duty, and Redick is one of the best spot up guys in the nba.

I’m re-opening my summer dream for Harris, Tobias Harris= future jazz man.

Agreed to a point. As it stands, Utah can make the room with a snap of their finger at any time, so urgency was never an issue. Utah doesn't need to let Favors expire and I doubt Utah let's Rubio walk away unless there's a better option. Utah needs to make improvements to the roster and assets are a good thing, but they have to be careful about it.

You mocked me for suggesting we send a similar trade package for Harris because you said Harris wasn't available. Don't hide behind the Miami pick. Own you were wrong and move on.

Anyone with common sense understands that, for the right deal, no player in the NBA is truly untouchable. When someone says "player A is not available", it always comes with the implied "for anything we can/would be willing to trade". I'm sure if we offered Gobert for Harris, the Clippers would have been all over that.

If we are careful, we bring back the same exact flawed roster next year.

If we trade Thabo and Udoh for somebody like Olynyk and an asset, we can still keep Rubio and Favors if we wanted because we have their rights and/or option.

The point I'm making is the asset. We have to get one. The difference between us and contenders are the assets and the free agency draw. We have neither.

2 1sts and expirings isnt trading Gobert. 2 1sts and expirings is exactly the type deal I considered and some roasted me for suggesting the Clippers would even consider trading Harris at all.

Its okay, I know its normal to bash any idea I present and then when a similar deal happens elsewhere there is some excuse why we couldn't get in the conversation.

Some off the beaten path things I’m thinking... do the macs go for cap space and trade Barnes? Kangz are apparently interested... what about a three team deal that sends Favs to Dallas we get Bjelica and Koufus... Dallas May pick up Favs option... think he’d be nice next to zinger and Doncic... they can try FA and have a plan.

I only do this if we get Conley and are operating over the cap.

Could also see a three team deal with Kings, Jazz, and Grizz that sends Gasol to Kings and we net Bjelica and Conley. WCS space and Skal head to Grizz (they get Randolph so Grit and Grind isn’t dead).

I think we still get something done this deadline. Might be like Mcgruder for a second and an exception but we do something methinks.

They will want to keep Lou Williams at least until the summer. He’s a guy other nba guys love and is cheap in the perfect role... if they bring in stars he’d be an important cheap contributor.

Beverly is likely available doe.

Philly overpaid and if the Jazz offered what you wanted they would have been over paying as well. Philly is going to look stupid if Harris walks this off season. The other side is they can offer him a max contract, is he worth that? I honestly don't know but it seems like a huge gamble.

I think Philly gave too much. I like Harris, but between the picks and Shamet (who will be in the running for runnerup ROY now), this was a huge gamble. Does make Philadelphia instant contenders. I agree that Butler will not be back with Philly next season.

It's normal that you show little ability to properly evaluate the components of trades or potential trades, and thus consider widely disparate deals as similar.

Philly was the leading contender for Niko imo... now they are done... he may end up going for a couple seconds and expirings... send some cash too... let’s do it.

I think they are worried about Jimmy. I think it’s risky... make Harris just a spot up shooter after what he’s done this season and he may bolt for a team with a better role. Only one ball... they have 3 guys that need it and are pouty buttholes at times when they don’t have it.
